Hello! I'm Jessie. When I started my journey of eating good, clean, real food I had no idea how much junk was hidden away in some of the products that were marketed to me as 'healthy'.

To put things in perspective: I'm not a complete paleo nut (I do love a neat single malt scotch), but one thing I've made a conscious effort to remove from my daily diet over the past few years is refined sugar. To do that I started reading labels and educating myself on what exactly I was putting into my body every time I ate a meal.

After a number of years following a clean, primal or paleo lifestyle I noticed there was a real lack of good quality, preservative/sugar free condiments...in particular my all time favourite condiment - mayonnaise.

I remembered back to when I was a kid and my mum used to keep homemade mayonnaise. I remembered how I loved it. So I set out to perfect my own mayonnaise that would fit within my 'real' and 'clean' food standards. No gluten. No refined sugar. No preservatives (bonus round: it just so happens to be non-dairy also).

When I was happy with my final recipe I kept a constant jar of it, and I'd share it with friends if they came round for dinner. Now if you can class "take it away before I eat the whole jar" and "*groaning noises* oh god that mayo" as positive comments, then positive comments is what I got. And it made me want to share it with the world - or, Auckland at least.

So Mayleo was born. In fact it was Maleo at first, but a friend pointed out that jars of white sauce with the word 'male' on it might not be such a good idea. Duly noted.
