Here at Maunsell Whanau tutors we offer classes, workshops and seminars specializing in Tikanga, Maori Performing arts and performing arts in general.

Mission

To provide opportunities for tauira (students) to express themselves through learning Māori protocols, Māori values and Māori history, by way of performing arts.

Products

Maunsell Whanau Tutors Ltd is based in the Whangarei area. We operate in the education industry as a service provider of Māori Culture Tutoring. There are seven segments of our business:

 Kapahaka – We teach Māori song and dance, tikanga (protocols), reo (Māori language), myths and legends and weaponry(poi, mau rakau etc) to students and their teachers in their centres and schools.

 Poi class - There are a few different types of workshops we provide, this includes; lessons in origin of poi and its purpose historically, how to make poi and use it respectfully, teach basic poi skills and waiata.

 Ukulele class - This is specifically for teachers to learn how to play the songs that we teach so that they can practice singing with the tamariki.

 Marae experience - This is an outing to a local Marae with formal proceedings e.g. the powhiri process. This gives the tamariki a real experience in tikanaga Marae (Maori customs pertaining to the marae) and knowledge of their local marae.

 Performances - We will prepare the tamariki for a performance and direct them through the performance. This could be an xmas party, matariki show etc.

 Professional Development – We provide workshops on “Modern Māori Views” and “How To Teach In A Māori Way”, to teachers and to the public.

 Conferences – This is a workshop on Kapahaka and how we teach it.

 Māori Waiata CDs – We will record and sell Māori Waiata CDs to existing customers.
