Only had one night in Napier and so glad we booked dinner at Matisse. The food was super tasty, creative and well booked. The wine menu was clearly impressive and service was friendly and really professional. Definitely recommend a visit. We had the pork belly, lamb ribs, Argentina beef, homemade focaccia and vegetables… yes we ordered alot and gobbled it all up
This wine bar offers a diverse and impressive selection of wines from around the world, complemented by excellent local options. The extensive alcohol choices cater to various preferences. The food, with a standout tartare, is simply amazing. Situated in a superb location, the ambiance adds to the overall fantastic experience.Food: 5/5
Always enjoyed Matisse! Great staff here and selection of wines from all over the world. Their platter was beautifully presented and so yummy, great for 4 people. The tempura oyster mushroom was fun to try too. Will be back : I miss the old cocktail selection though.Food: 5/5
One of my favourite spots! The food here NEVER disappoints... nor does the wine. Matisse has such a calm and romantic atmosphere, I already want to go back. You can also buy bottles of wine to take home which is fab.Food: 5/5

Hands down, the best location in Hawkes Bay for a glass of wine or 4. From the IMPRESSIVE wine list to the delicious menu, from the great location to the helpful staff - Matisse is not a place to miss if you are visiting or a local. Did I mention the wine list?? Book a table, taste some delicious wines while you enjoy a terrific meal then take a bottle home to continue the party.
I had been eyeing this place up. The menu looked fantastic and it certainly delivered. The South American beef and the Tuna were our favourites. The staff were very friendly, attentive, passionate and knowledgeable. The drinks were great, something a little different. The best thing was definitely how personable the staff were.
We were a party of 4. 3 of us received our drinks. We waited a considerable amount of time. we asked the waitress who took our order when the other drink might be coming. The waitress assured us it was on its way. We waited yest longer the 3 of us in possession of drinks had stopped drinking as we thought we would have finished before the awaited drink arrived. We then asked another waiter about the drink, and he said he'd find out. We waited yet longer ...... Finally, the long awaited drink at least 30 minutes arrived without explanation or apology. I asked what the reason might have been for the delay, and the waiter said it hadn't been printed out on the system. Only then did we get a fleeting 'sorry'. Awful service!
Fabulous wines to enjoy in house or take away, great space, excellent hospitality led by Nadia and her team. Highly recommend a drop in.
My first time here for dinner. And I very quickly realised that it is not really a dinner place. It’s more like a wine bar. And they serve you food / tappas but the price for the serving size is astronomical. I had the eye fillet for 28$ and this was a tiny piece of steak cut into 4 pieces approx. also had prawn dumplings 4 for 22$. And last crab which was battered 2 pieces for 27$. A drink for 19$. Taste wise it was ok, nothing special to be honest. There are better places in napier for a similar price range where not only one feels full but for this price gets a proper meal. Total bill 96$ and then I had to go have a burger to fill me self up : Unfortunately this is not a dinner place, more of a snack place and that too extremely expensive. I would not recommend it !!
