A very scenic walk around the peninsular between Matiatia and Owhanake Bay. Some big hills to climb but with the reward of Great views. The track is in good condition. Unfortunately there is a major noxious weed problem in the bush clad hillsides. There are major infestation of woolly nightshade and moss plant.
Fantastic walk around the cliff edges. We went on a windy day after a lot of rain, so much of the path was quite slippery and in parts a bit treacherous! But the scenery is stunning, and some of the houses on the walk are absolutely jaw dropping.
After leaving the ferry terminal, just turn left and walk towards the beach and you'll see the signs for this walk. When I went May no dogs were allowed because of the blue penguins, which was ideal for me as it was totally empty of other people and super peaceful. Some ups and downs but not too bad and you'll be stopping lots to take photos anyway!
It's my favorite trail in 2023. It's not too hard at all, but slopes can be challenging. The length is not too long, and you can find a way out to one of the roads. The view is just stunning. Pokutakawa flowers are in the foreground, the bay and yachts are in the midground, and the hills are the background. It's just picture perfect.
It is definitely a beautiful place. But, be aware that you might not be able to get around the track because of high tide! So my top is to look at the tide app before deciding to walk in this trail.
