The building is designed like a Hobbit gatehouse and it’s honestly one of the cutest architecture I’ve seen on this trip. I bought Hobbit stamps for my collection in the gift shop. Definitely a must stop if you are here.
NZ provides a wealth of experience in all forms, no disappointment with the Matamata Information Centre. I had come for Hobbiton but was pleasantly surprised by this little Hobbit-themed centre, spending more time walking its surrounds, exploring its architecture and chatting with the friendly staff about all things Hobbit. I couldn’t imagine visiting Hobbiton without this classic introduction and my stay in Matamata. Great town, wonderful people, brilliant stay … thank you.
This is as close as you'll ever get to see Hobbiton without actually going there and paying for it. Highly recommend if you pass through the town. They have a little corner in the back with LotR merch and a great inventory of Moana Rd items in their shop.
A very attractive place. Nearby there are cafes, parking space, and public toilets.
Great visitor centre and souvenir shop. I spent so much money there but great prices. Friendly staff
