A very easy to miss spot if you aren’t actively looking for it while heading into or out of the Tawharanui Marine Reserve for tourists. We were lucky our snorkelling instructor whispered into our ears about this place because it was so worth it. The small shop sells fresh shucked oysters out of their oyster farm. They were so fresh and tasted of that clean and pristine NZD waters. We decided on a dozen oysters as a snack for the two of us before heading into Matakana proper to find a more substantial lunch. They have bigger plates should you be more greedy. Hehe. They have more than enough different garnishes for your oysters from spicy, sweet, salty, and other. We settled into the little table underneath a few of the trees on the lot and just delighted in slurping up each oyster. The oysters were medium sized and really sweet. We really recommend stopping by here in you are in the area. It’s a gem.
Excellent oysters, awesome soup, friendly people, and good hot sauce to boot. They also have honey but we didn’t try it.
By far the best oysters i have eaten in a long time. In fact i try to get their once a month to grab one 6 pack of half shelves and a tub. The team there are awesome with great humor and good memory to those of us that frequently there often.
that 6 dozen of oyster wasnt enough for me, definitely be back on this place whenever having plans of travelling up north.. a must stop shop. NZ’s finest oyster so far.
01 March 22, Purchased 2 x Dozen of XL oysters at $25 per doz. Was really disappointed with the way they priced their stock. These were definitely not XL sized oysters, very skinny, not creamy and pretty small sized regardless that the shell presented to look “big” Unfortunately will not return. Do suggest you view them prior to committing to the sale, so you are happy with the price you pay for them.
A must stop at Matakana. Very reasonable price, fresh oyster. Lovely staff.
We always stop here on our way back to Auckland after visiting beaches further up north. Awesome service, tasty oysters, plenty of parking and seat plus tables are available on site to enjoy their shucked oysters. They have condiments for flavoring, just help yourselves after paying.
I don't know how I ended up in matakana.. but luckily the weather was nice, so i bought half a dozen oysters, 2 with vinegar and 2 with lemon.. my friend tried oysters for the first time lolz
