Based on my experience, studying at MIT particularly within the School of Counselling was extremely disappointing. The environment felt deeply toxic, and the level of support for students was alarmingly poor. If this is the standard the institution is willing to tolerate in one of its schools, it raises serious concerns about the broader organisation.nnI spent three and a half years there and witnessed constant turnover among lecturers. Staff seemed to come and go regularly, creating an unstable learning environment. Many appeared to have limited preparation for teaching, and only 1 or 2 held doctoral qualifications. At times, the program felt under-resourced and poorly managed.nnHaving studied at other institutions in New Zealand, this was by far the most negative academic environment I have encountered.nnAnyone considering enrolling in the Bachelor of Counselling should research their options very carefully. In my experience, students were expected to give a great deal while receiving very little support in return. Some courses were even taught by very recent graduates, and many of us felt we left the program without the depth of knowledge or professional preparation we had expected.
Would not recommend this place to anyone that is serious about their education. I attended MIT last year studying level 3 for nursing and health studies, and not reading the reviews before I attended has been my biggest regret, had I read them first I would have never gone. Most lecturers do not care about the education and this place is strictly run like a money grabbing business. I was always studious within my studies and got everything done but then was failed because of one section in one assignment which I tried to resubmit but was not given the option even though we were told we have 2 resubmissions per class. It was coming to the end of the semester so the lecturer and management staff could not care less as they knew they were on holiday soon. I tried my hardest to contact them but was told to stop trying as they were on break and wouldn't reply. I have decided to switch institutes and receive a better education elsewhere. Like I said do not attend this place if you are serious about your career.
I have been watching my sister on the phone with Ask Me Services back and forth for 5 hours.nnFirstly, MIT hadn’t submitted to studylink her full year credits EFT to studylink and instead half even though it is a full time course Nursing and they reported her to be studying part time to studylink resulting in her not being able to receive student allowance Although this could be an honest mistake, I watched my sister try and fix it by calling the Ask Me services back and forth and some people on the line helped and understood while 2 others denied and blamed my sisters fault in application - completely 2 different answers. Seems to be new staff? I think they need to be retrained or monitored.nnSecondly, she has been calling to ask for help to find her timetable. She starts next week and has signed in to all respective portals where it should be available. Again, has been told 4 different things every person has a new answer to her question and after 6 hours still hasn’t gotten any help.nnI’m not sure if this is a training or managment issue but is definitely not a good feeling as a newly enrolled student.
The people working on Ask Me! phone line needs to either be retrained, educated or fired. Rude and sarcastic and dosent know the answer to anything as simple as timetables. That is fine but would rather be told plainly than passed back and forth between the lines.
I wish I could give this institute zero stars. It seems more focused on profit than on genuine education. My daughter spent three years studying nursing here, and the experience was incredibly disappointing. She faced a lot of racism and favoritism from the lecturers, which created a toxic learning environment. Unfortunately, the program didn’t provide her with the clinical skills she needs for her future career. I do not recommend this institute to anyone serious about their education.
