We went there for a coffee with a nice beach view and that’s what we got. Place is located right next to beach, we sat outside and enjoyed the view. The coffee was average, I wanted some sweet treat so I chose blueberry muffin - slightly disappointed. It tasted like muffin from shop, for 8,5 $ I expected full and rich flavours, not chemical taste in my mouth.
The only reason we go to this café is for the beautiful view over Maketu Beach. The coffee was average, the wedges were bland, and the fish of the day was too small for NZD28. I was disappointed by how overpriced and tasteless the meal was.
Update: After visiting the Cafe again, we experienced 2 ocassions where the cappuccino's were terrible to the extent we left them. The fish burgers were tiny and expensive and the chips were so disappointing. Love the view but have to resort to takeaway cappuccino's from elsewhere now.nnHad a cappuccino which was good. Great view and atmosphere on a nice day. There is a surcharge for using your card to pay.
Late lunch, 1st Jan 24, expected to pay surcharge but come on $9 for 2 cans of coke! Food was OK, not worth $65 for 2 people. On a positive, the view, beautiful. Will try the takeaway before the entrance to the beach
This has always been my favorite place to head to. Unfortunately, the last couple of times have been a disappointment. Scenery, no matter what the weather, is stunning. Seems to change every time we go there. I always get either Fisherman's Basket or Fish'n'chips, and my husband has a Cajun Chicken Sandwich. His was less Cajun and more salty. Mine was less crispy and more pale. It was also minus the scallops, and the fish tasted like a cheaper variety. Their prices are still high, so we expected the same quality we used to get. What was delicious was the slice of Carrot Cake we shared and the Iced Coffee and Iced Chocolate. Next time we will go for morning or afternoon tea and have cake and coffee. And we'll still get the view
