Story

Makana Confections specialises in gift-quality chocolate and confections, all hand-made and using only the freshest, natural ingredients available.

We are New Zealand owned and operated, with two boutique chocolate factories and three retail stores based in the Bay of Islands, Marlborough Wine Country and most recently Newmarket, Auckland.

An absolute must stop on your trip to Keri Keri, watching chocolatiers at work, as they create their amazing chocolates and chocolate dipped Shortbread. Samples made available to try for the day, and a wide variety of treats to choose from, even unique chocolate scented candles! Enjoyed our short stop and will be back again for their yummy truffles.
Stopped by here on the way from Keri Keri to Paihia. We were offered some free samples of the Macadamia Butter Toffee Crunch on arrival. It's quite good, so we got two boxes of it - completely worth it, even if a bit pricey. We will be enjoying that for some time, I think.
If you love delicious sweets this is the place for you, made on site these treats are simply to die for, they even have sugar free options. We purchased the cooler bag filled with treats, the whānau favourite was the macadamia brittle but they were all delicious. Highly reccomend a visit.
Been to Makana cafe many times. The food is consistently very good. The deserts are to die for delicious. They make their own ice-cream. The prices are regular. Lovely atmosphere and a beautiful garden. Highly recommended. P. S. Pop in next door to a chocolate shop for a delicious free sample.
Amazing chocolate! My family and I went to grab some chocolate whilst on holiday, but, after tasting the complementary chocolates samples you get when you renter the store, we immediately fell in love! We ended up buying a lot more than expected, and ate it just outside the shop! Would recommend to anyone with a sweet tooth. The bakery was also amazing! I loved it! -my brother
Mmmmmmmm so additive. Not the first time here and won't be the last. These biscuits are worth every penny. Now I can't wait to dig into the other treats.
Free samples and helpful and friendly staff make this a "must" stop in Kerikeri. We might not have bought the macadamia butter toffee crunch if we hadn't sampled it. After a taste it was definitely a case of " we need some of this". Very moresome. We ended up buying a lot more than intended, and have regretted nothing.
Makes the best choc. Clean shop and well set out displays showing price. Love the little sample you recieve on arrival. Staff friendly and helpful plus bonus if you are a member. My grandkid love looking through the window watching the ladies making the choc delights.
The macadamia chocolate brittle from here is the best. It’s is so good. The truffles and basically anything from here is top quality. They will send anywhere in Nz if you wish. You always get a free sample when you enter the store
Staff are friendly and courteous. Chef was very accommodating and knew the ingredients to the meals, as garlic and onion doesn't agree with us. Had the beef skewers to share, which was served in two plates. Not a fan of lemongrass, bit it was so shuttle that is was amazing. Beef skewers were tender and flavoured to perfection. Somewhat sticky rice was full of flavour and went well with the slightly curried peanut satay sauce. The hot chocolate is very good and we recommend having a 50/50 between milk and dark chocolate. The desserts are fantastic and a lot of effort is put into the the taste and creation. Tiramisu was fantastic, being soft, flavour some, with a few varieties of textures.
