"Based in the beautiful Scottish Borders village of St Boswells, we like to think of The Mainstreet Trading Company as a destination in itself. Back in 2008 we renovated a former auction house, to create a light and airy space filled with books and the smell of coffee. In 2012, work was completed in the barn behind the main shop to create Mainstreet Deli & Home, launched by Tom Kitchin. 2018 marked our 10th birthday at Mainstreet, we had an amazing year, culminating in winning Britain’s Best Small Shop."

Great wee place for coffee or a snack and to browse the books or visit the deli & shop at the rear.
Disappointed. 4 people behind small counter but ignored until I asked a question. This is the 2nd time we've travelled as we have heard good things about this place. Did get some lovely children's books and book store staff lovely. Maybe coffee shop staff have become complacent due to not having local competition!
Lovely food/gift shop. Lovely book shop. Very disappointing café. I couldn't eat what I ordered, as it was totally full of coriander, not mentioned on menu. Staff made no offer to rectify. Extremely expensive for what you get. Won't be eating there again.
Very nice bookshop and cafe. Bookshop has a fine selection of books and food at cafe was good. Additionally there is a deli with friendly service and in particular a good wine selection.

Very nice , quaint bookstore, they do great cakes and Drinks, but no food until midday, so it seemed. Very welcoming.
What a great find. We were staying in St Boswells which is a beautiful village in the Borders. We went for a coffee and cake at the book shop only to find that there was a delicatessen behind it which also had an amazing gift shop. The choice of cheeses were amazing as were the wines. The gift shop also sold quality gifts. The staff were friendly helpful and knowledgeable about the produce the were selling. Thank you for your kindness and welcome. If you are near or in St Boswells they are worth a visit.
Great cakes / limited lunch options no quiche eg soup or sandwiches / coffee very good but so many questions when I asked for some sugar?
One of the best bookshops anywhere, what's most surprising is that it's located in an unassuming Scottish village. Great selection of books, wonderful building, good food and tea. What's not to like about this place. They also do lots of signings with famous authors.
What a lovely space this is...lovely coffee shop..inside a bookshop...friendly staff..cheese scones...just yummy..this is my second visit. Val Clapton
