Promoting Sport and Recreation in our Community
We are a group of community and family oriented volunteers who are working to improve the physical and social wellbeing of our community.
We are an incorporated society formed in 2007 through a Push Play pilot programme, supported and funded by a range of organisations including the former Rodney District Council, Harbour Sport, Waitemata PHO, and SPARC (now Sport NZ).
We successfully brought together 11 local sports clubs and Special Olympics to coordinate the delivery of sport & recreation programmes across the district. We employed a Community Sport Coach to increase the skills of players, teachers and coaches in the district, which resulted in increased numbers of participants, confidence and performance across every code that was involved. This successful project has since been taken up by the Primary Schools Collective.
Other successful projects include the popular annual Mighty Mahu Tryathlon, and the progression of the Showgrounds Development Plan within Council. This project had stalled for some years, but is now moving forward once again thanks to our regular submissions to the Local Board and Auckland plans.
As well as linking with and promoting established sporting and recreational clubs, we advocate to improve existing facilities where needed.
We welcome your input and support. Would you like to join our group? We'd love to hear from you.
