Thank you Mad Campers for an amazing 1 month away in your MAD TRACKER. Everything from the communication, to the service, to the camper and utilities were fantastic.nnIt was easy to drive and park given the size. Being 4WD the gravel roads were not a problem and we could access the more remote and beautiful campsites. The kitchen was amazing and the dining area was comfortable we ate in more than setting up outside! There was also great protection from insects looking at you sandflies with the screen doors & windows. The bed was super comfy and spacious and the under bed storage newer version is huge! It is definitely a modern camper with lots of USB and plug ports, and power for days! We were often fully charged by the time we reached the next campsite from the driving and solar power.nnThere were some issues with the water gauges as they can be a bit unreliable at times. But these didn't really affect our overall enjoyment.nnThe front desk team were also very helpful and accommodating. And the on-road service was swift and effective when we ran into issues. The drop off process was smooth, and we even got some money back from the MadChallenge!nnOverall, we had an amazing experience with Mad Campers and would recommend it to anyone looking to try out van life in South Island
Mad Campers was an absolute game changer for our South Island trip. The van had everything we needed we had the Mad 2+, was super comfortable to travel in, and made the whole experience effortless from start to finish. The van was really easy to drive which is something I was a little worried about given I hadn't driven a big van before. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to explore NZ. Would 100% book again!
Mad Campers…insanely brilliant. We rented a camper for 2 months and a car for a week. We like to book things far out and unlike other outfits they were so so helpful. All dealings with the team have been incredibly easy. Handovers fast and efficient, prompt communication. The team have been lovely to deal with both face to face and electronically. The van we had was perfect all amazingly well thought out with us comfortably storing our bags, boogie boards and being able to live in it. We loved doing the Mad Challenge…achieving it after about 5 weeks…really some fun to our trip. We thoroughly recommend Mad Campers - they made an enormous positive contribution to our biggest holiday ever. Thank you.
I wouldn’t have rented a Mad Explorer two years in a row! if Mad Campers didn’t do things right! They think of everything and outfit your camper so you are ready to explore! Very clean. Modern. Well appointed. Easy-to-reserve.nnThe beanie caps, the chocolate, and the bottle of wine celebrating our anniversary exploring the South Island were a nice touch.nnThe Mad Campers team are great to work with and they communicate effectively. They have a great attitude.nnJust a great overall operation.nnSidenote: We loved the newly installed diesel heaters this fall.nnHighly recommend Mad Campers!
We are a retired American couple traveling in New Zealand for three months. We prefer to travel in a camper van, since that is what we have in the US. We originally wanted to rent the Mad Tracker truck camper but they were all booked, so we went with their Mad Explorer. Overall it is a very nice camper van and super easy to drive around on the North Island and get into campsites as well as parking lots. We liked that it had a fixed bed and the large garage space under the bed. It had plenty of storage for food and clothing throughout the living space. It’s equipped with an inverter, solar panels and the battery charges while driving, so power was never a problem for us. The only negatives was the layout of the wet bath which had the vehicle wheel inside which made it hard to use the cassette toilet. Other negatives was the height of the bed made it hard to get into for short people, so we ended up buying a step stool to aide my wife getting in and out. The last negative was the LDV chassis had uncomfortable seats for long drives. Overall we enjoyed our time in the van. Mad Campers personnel in Auckland were super responsive and gave us a very good orientation of the van at pickup. We now have a booking for their Mad Tracker on the South Island, so we will get to compare the two models. I would definitely recommend Mad Campers for your Kiwi adventures.
