We provide quality early childhood education for children from birth to school age, based on a whanau tupu ngatahi (families growing together) philosophy.
We believe in parents and whanau being the first and best educators for their tamariki. We welcome your whanau to our sessions to experience the fun learning environment and supportive parent community. For adults, Playcentre provides free training to enhance and support their parenting journey. For children, we follow the NZ early childhood curriculum Te Whariki, to provide a child-led learning environment. We are committed to bicultural practice and believe in nurturing the relationship between child and parent. Playcentre is all about a parent community delivering the curriculum, while also managing and governing the centre with support from the Southland Playcentre Association. Playcentre is a NZ icon, with Lumsden opening in 1961!
Following primary school term times, we are open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30am- 12:30pm at Playcentre. On Wednesdays we hold our Out and About session where we are based out in our community.. perhaps a farm, a forest, near a river. Who knows where we will discover next? This session is all about perseverance, discovery and collaboration.
