One of the greatest freedom campsites we've come across in the South Island! Plenty of parking to choose from, old railway station also serves as cover for preparing meals with picnic tables, dishwashing and hand washing stations, a decent playground for the kiddos, nice clean flushing toilets plus grocery and fish and chip shop just across the road! So much convinience in one place with a bonus of old restored trains as an attraction. Theres also a paid washing machine and dryer within walking distance. Thank you Lumsden Council for catering for campers.
Easily one of the best freedom campsites in New Zealand. There are clean flush toilets here, sink to wash the dishes, drinking water and many tables around. There are 50+ ! parking spots. They are divided as SC/non-SC, be careful about that. A library wifi is just a cherry on top.
Excellent place for freedom camping. The amenities are clean, have almost everything we need for a night, including damp station and portable water. Just few campers during winter night, but everything is clean and well maintained, and we family of 4 with young kids feel safe staying overnight here.nThere are supermarkets and takeaway nearby too.
The best equipped freedom camping in the whole south island. You can stay at least 5 nights here. There are toilets, a kitchen corner, a lot of parking lot, shops are close. Perfect! The night was quiet and peaceful.
This is a great freedom camping site at the old railway station, right in the heart of the township. The trail platform offers covered areas for campers to prepare their meals on the picnic tables provided. Clean toilets and the grocery store across the road. We chose not to stay as there were just too many 'sliders' who's doors open and then slam closed all through the night as their occupiers relieve themselves . We stayed at the member only NZMCA park a few minutes away for the costly sum of $10 -
