The Peranakan or Nyonya heritage is traced back to the early adventures of migrants predominantly from the Fujian province in Southeastern China, who settled throughout the Malay Archipelago in South East Asia. In their new environment, and through interracial marriage with the locals, a new cuisine is born.
Nyonya cuisine is acknowledged as one of the earliest examples of fusion food, with the Penang Nyonyas artfully blending their cooking techniques and ingredients from the Chinese, Malays, Thais and Southern Indians. Penang Nyonya cuisine, which is not shy of flavours or fragrance, is famous the world over and highly sought after by visitors to Penang.
Cooking from the heart, we strive to continue the traditions and family recipes handed down through the generations. Apart from this, we also proudly bring you our handpicked selection of the best street foods from Penang, ones that have placed Her on the world culinary map.
At Little Penang, we take pride in our food, lots of pride. Lai chiak. Come dine with us.

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed. An enthusiastic waitress showed us to the table and arranged water to start. Rapidly took our drinks order and returned for our food order. Great service. Then the food arrived. It was wonderful. Very authentic Malaysian food. Spicy, full of flavors and proteins cooked perfectly. Rate this restaurant very high. If you like Asian food and in particular Thai food then you must give Malaysian a try at Little Penang. Malaysian has a greater variety of flavours and proteins. Little Penang was excellent, food, service and the atmosphere expected in a CBD.
Went here on lunch time weekdays so super busy but queue is pretty fast and food is fast serving considering they are so busy. I tried the roti and nona curry. Really good. I enjoyed it. They also have malaysian traditional kueh for dessert. Also the drink, they have milo dinosaur!! I don’t even know if I am in NZ or Malaysia anymore. Lol. Food is good. Definitely will come back!
Great spot to have authentic Malaysian food! The Hokkien Mee was great! Deliciously rich broth packed with beautiful flavour and heat. The ambiance brings me back to the high school cafeteria... Not great. Their pandan desserts however are addictively good!
Fantastic service and great food! The best CKT outside of Malaysia - comparable to those on Guerney Drive. Highly recommended and will be back each time we visit Wellington.
Loved the char kuey teow, best so fast I've had in wellington. Though there's no cockles but the taste is still great.Food: 5/5
Extremely delicious food, surprisingly prompt service, and a good range of gluten free options, I plan on visiting again whenever I'm back in Wellington. Well worth the five stars
My husband and I went in after our trip to farmers market today. The restaurant was nice and chill and had a nice ambience. I ordered the $12 curry combo roti, vegetable curry puffs and to drink the Malaysian white cold coffee. My husband ordered the BBQ bao buns and Nasi Goreng. The service was quick and our food came out just on time. We paid $44 for 2 people for our meals which was efficient. We will be back and will recommend this place. Authentic Malaysian Food
Best place and must try in Wellington for Malaysian food. Tried their Nasi goreng, nyonya chicken combo meal, Char kuya teow, mee goreng, fried noodles, lemon chicken wings.. everything tasted so good. Portions are big. Special mention to in house lemon ice tea..Delicious.
Great taste. Visited with friends. We had chicken bao bun 9.50$ - 2 pieces char koay teow, char mee, Mee Goreng 18.50$ each and lychee float 6.90$ and a ginger beer 5$ Total bill 93.0$ Chicken bao at 9.50$ for 2 pieces was expensive. Overall taste was good but noodles were quite oily. Needed a little extra spice. And there were indeed only 3 prawns as one of the previous customer pointed 4/5 for taste; 3/5 for value. Overall 3/5
Lovely meal with colleagues. Great service - huge meals for a small price. Fully got swayed by a drink with the word dinosaur in it Food: 4/5
