Story

De architect was R.A. Externe links Larnach Castle

An interesting place to visit if you like old architecture and history. - Ticket price for the castle and garden for adults is 37$ , children 5-14 is 12$. - Ticket for family of 2 adults and 4 children 5-14 is 86$. - Garden only : adults $18.50, $5 for children 5-14. The castle is large with many rooms, each room has many antique items of different styles, they are well preserved. Up on the roof top of the castle you will have a beautiful view and cover the surrounding scenery. Garden in winter little flowers, good walk around. It's on the way to see penguins and albatross. Souvenir shop inside the castle right at the exit door with many interesting items.
We absolutely loved our stay at Larnach Castle. We would definitely stay again. Their staff are lovely, the room was great with a super comfy bed. Dinner in the castle was fabulous we loved meeting other travellers and the 4 course meal was divine. Breakfast in the ballroom was perfect too. As for the castle itself it's truly amazing so many details in every room, I could have spent much longer looking around and learning about the history of the castle. I highly recommend visiting and staying at Larnach Castle.
I've been to Larnach Castle before and it is a nice stop when you're out on the peninsula to see the penguins or the albatrosses. It is a grand building with an interesting history perched with amazing views of the bay. It looks larger than it really is but it will take some time to make it through as there is a fair about of information and history. The grounds are also beautiful and you should plan to take your time to explore. At the end stop by the cafe for a little refreshment and enjoy the ambience of the ballroom. I've visited in the summer and winter and enjoyed it regardless of the season.
Fantastic castle . Restoration a credit to the owners. Lovely to walk around, less people. Really enjoyed our brunch here in the cafe, nice and warm with the fires going. Gardens would look amazing in summer time. Lots of history and antiques. Great time line of owners and celebrations that have happened here. Mr Larnach had 3 wives
Nice & comfortable accommodation in a unique place. The castle is a fair drive from Dunedin in the peninsula. The setting is stunning, often shrouded in miat and cloud you get terrific views from the top of the castle and grounds. The grounds are well kept and garden is beautiful. Breakfast is included and buffet style in the morning with continental and cooked option. You can also visit the castle as part of your stay which is interesting to learn about the owners and see the old rooms preserved as they are. Picturesque and unique as far as stays go, though the area in the stables can get quite hot!
Beautiful place to visit. We stayed 2 nights in Stable very quirky loved every minute. Chefs choice fine dining a must if staying in their accommodation be sure to book in advance. Awesome to just wander around at leisure, also access to Castle anytime when staying.
My husband and I booked the high tea experience and the garden and castle tour. The castle is beautiful and it has so much history. The garden looked beautiful even during winter. Afterward, we had a lovely high tea in the castle ballroom. Highly recommend this experience if you are in Dunedin.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
One of our favourite place in Dunedin, been here twice just purely amazing place with interesting history. Fantastic view of the peninsula from the roof. Have a short walk to the gardens and see the beautiful flowers then head to the ballroom converted to a cafe for a nice coffee..Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A must do visit if you are in the Dunedin region. The amazing historic Larnach Castle is a wonderful display both inside and out of the early history of New Zealand settlement. Exploring the grounds and inside the many restored rooms of the castle were a pleasure. We just don't have anything else like it here in New Zealand. Highly recommend.
Larnach castle is a great place to visit the one castle in New Zealand. A lovely detailed history of the owners, the journey, the struggles and success of the property. A great amount of rooms to explore and take in the history with time specific theme and attention to detail is high. The gardens are wonderful and there's a lot to take in from the carpark to right around the castle and the look out as well. The Cafe in the ball room is lovely and prices are very affordable. 4 stars and not 5 purely based on the price being quite high for what is ultimately a tourist attraction. I feel would generate more visitors with a more friendly price point.
