About
We grow lotus, waterlilies, irises and marginals and are looking to open our watergardens, banana groves and bush walks to the public later this year
"What is basically a retirement project has taken a life of its own, with 60 acres of over grown lava flows and dumped rocks nature has done what nature does and then we decided to remove a few of the dumped boulders to see what was underneath and plant a few tropical plants as the rocks hold the heat. It changes daily with one of the largest collections of edible bananas in the country and a powerful display of Lotus and other waterplants around the ponds and gardens. Please note the best time to see Lotus in bloom is from the end of November through until March. We are generally open when our gate is - Monday's not a good day but always worth a call if passing through. Normal hours are 9 - 4 Fri, Sat, Sun and public holidays."

The open day was a great opportunity to meander around this interesting productive estate that specialises in banana production. Other tropical plants also to be found. Huge variety of banana trees. Seedlings for sale. Children's play area of some substance. Mowed trails, scenic. Knowledgeable, helpful, and chatty owners. Walk-around lake. Field loo and hand wash station of good standard. On site carparking good.
A hidden gem! Well worth a visit and walk around this unique property. Take in the bird song and frogs as you admire the gardens.
If you are planning to grow bananas - this place is a must visit. Hugh has a huge collection of cultivars and vast amount of knowledge!
Awesome. Interesting and so beautiful
Translated by Google Well worth a visit, the owner is a very nice and fun old man. Didn't see much advertising, but very interesting place. There will be 48 different varieties of bananas on the plantation, as well as pineapples, mangoes, jackfruit, plums and more. Many things are varieties that have never been seen in New Zealand. I really admire the owner who can find so many things, very shocked. You can also buy some banana trees, and of course some freshly picked bananas, very happy and worth it. Highly recommend and will come again. Original 48
