Lakeland Resort Taupo

If you are wanting a reasonably priced place to stay we can recommend the Lakeland. The room was very comfortable, clean & lovely bathroom and bedding. Had good amenities like microwave, etc. Very happy to stay again. The restaurant meal was lovely as was breakfast and the staff were friendly. So many bad reviews which is such a shame.

This place is run down and dated. We had some sort of make shift bedding with an old synthetic blanket under a sheet as a duvet. It was not warm enough. The towel rack fell apart and you can see a ‘repair’ had previously been made with blue tack trying to hold it together. We stayed here for three nights and not once had our rubbish emptied or our room serviced with clean towels, tea/coffee or refresh of toiletries. We ran out of toilet paper. We had a good few minutes entertaining ourselves as to how blood stains got on the wallpaper…? It is not a cheap stay, there are plenty of other places in Taupo for similar rates of good standard and service. Don’t stay, shop around. We clearly won’t be back.

Friendly helpful staff. Nice restaurant had great dinner and the breakfast was excellent. Let down was the room. Dark and smelly. Had a musty wet smell. No air-conditioning which made it very uncomfortable. Very noisy, could hear guest upstairs going to the toilet.

Been traveling around NZ for 3 weeks using Motels. Very fussy, stripped bed on arrival to check out mattress and sheets, all immaculately clean, room was spotless, comfy beds, one of the cleanest rooms have stayed in. Serviced daily over our 4-day stay. No Noise from rooms next door or upstairs and the place was full, the room was pretty soundproof. Lakelands we selected, location, rooms, and restaurant on site Our little moan is that the dining room was closed that day on arrival. Told would be open the next night, arrived back after being out 12 hrs. tired and hungry to be told had to book in advance. Gave up on relying on it for dinner. Breakfast was great with a full selection and plentiful

Rooms are dated, sheets are stained, no bathroom amenities other than dispenser soap. Forgot to add bar drinks onto our bill at dinner we had 3 extra guests to join us at dinner No gluten free food to offer at breakfast. Would be more cost effective and nicer getting an air bnb.Rooms: 1/5

Was ok for just a stop over and price but cleaners do need to vacuum under the beds. Also I would suggest 30 sec to really kill the mould in the bathroom as just wiping it isn’t cutting the mustard. Staff were lovely though.Rooms: 1/5

If this hotel had the last rooms in Taupo I would stay in Turangi. The room was run down with the last guests food left in the fridge, mould in the Bathroom and generally dirty We could get food but as our party was larger than 4 we would have had to have more than one sitting as the kitchen only catered for 4 at a time. Breakfast was served but was the bare minimum and breakfast in town was much better value for money. As this Resort is some way from town this was a disappointment. As for the service, of which there was none, the bar lady acted as if we were putting her out just by asking for a drink. and the night manager who was easily identified as she wore pajamas had horrendous people skills. This would have been a beautiful place 30 years ago but not now

Fabulous breakfast buffet. Restaurant dinner was perfect. I had a problem with my mattress springs poking through on my first night, I spoke to front desk, mattress changed immediately, next day house keeping were very kind and inquired if I had slept better.

Clean, tidy room with exceptionally friendly and helpful reception staff. A beautiful view over towards the lake and everything we needed at an affordable price. Thank you we'll be backRooms: 5/5

I suspect the previous review mistook Lakelands for one of the other “Lake”-named resorts in the area. There are no cooking facilities, just a kettle. Rooms are very dated. Bathroom looks like it’s been redone and is clean. However, would have to be the worst sleep ever due to the horrendous mattresses. Absolutely impossible to get a decent sleep, then making the days far less enjoyable. For the price, would expect a bit more, like a mattress that has been updated sometime since resort first built. It’s also quite a distance from town.
