Story

Lake's End Lodge is a character Villa on the banks of Lake Wakatipu. Surrounded in mountains and farmland, in the cute wee village of Kingston, we're your home away from home.

Kingston is 30 minutes from the airport, 40 minutes from Queenstown and en route to Milford Sound.

We're off the off the beaten track. Far enough away to feel truly relaxed, while close enough to the vibrant Queenstown with all it has to offer.

With your stay you'll receive free breakfast, as well as the option to join our family dinners if you like. Our water comes straight off the mountain and is delicious!

We've also got loads of facilities free of charge including kayaks, bikes, a hot tub and more. Come and experience some good ol' kiwi hospitality

Amazing place! We stayed in the cabin container and it was perfect! Great place for a getaway from the madness in Queenstown. Really feels like you're miles away from everything. Free kayaks, tennis, ping pong, hot tub, sauna, gym!! John and Kimmy have a really beautiful place and they are great hosts! So friendly and welcoming! We'll definitely be back!!
Fantastic place and people. John and Kimmy have got the place completely sorted - a lovely old house that they've thoughtfully restored to be warm, charming and well appointed. They are wonderful hosts with a nice balance of engaging with their guests but also giving space to let people do their own thing if they prefer. Lake's End is in a charming, quiet setting that is a pleasant contrast to the bustle of Queenstown, but not too far away. We particularly enjoyed the spa after completing the Around the Mountains cycle trail. Thoroughly recommended. Mike Farrow, Whangarei
Home feeling hostel! Clean bed/bathroom and all other amenities. Feels like to me that the ownersJohn and Kim have really made some effort, skills and a good taste to make the living settings of the place into a superb level. Will come back in the next travel!
After spending two weeks traveling around New Zealand this was by far the best place I stayed in. The hosts really make you feel at home, shout out to the fresh bread for breakfast. The place has almost as many facilities as a fancy resort. A perfect place for the ones who want the peace of New Zealand but close to the Queenstown's wilderness. I strongly recommend to book at least two nights. Cheers and enjoy NZ!
Kimmy and John are very kind and friendly. With the flooded out roads, Kimmy kept in touch and helped us to figure out what to do and when we could drive. John made fresh bread for breakfast. We used the canoe and enjoyed the hot tub. Kimmy gave great suggestions for activities.
Just awesome! We had a wonderful stay at Lakes End Lodge. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful and do their best, that everything is perfect for the guests. The share room has very comfortable beds with own curtain, light and power supply. You can also use the sauna, the hot tub or just play some video games in their gaming and video lounge. The bathrooms are clean and modern as well. For breakfast they bake fresh bread which is a nice alternative to the boring toast backpackers normally eat; Altogether we can recommend this hostel to everyone who is in that area and is looking for a place to stay! It's only fair to give this hostel a place in our top 3 hostel list.
This place has it all: BBQ, a pool table, trampoline, hot tub... just to name a few. It's a home and it feels like one. With only a few rooms it has a very friendly and personal atmosphere. Everything was clean and even the bunk beds were comfy as! Heaps of love!
This place was amazing! Queenstown was completely packed so I had to expand my search to the nearby areas, and wound up being for 2 nights at LEL. Best mistake I made in my trip to NZ. Felt much more like a B&B with a dorm room or a homestay than the normal hostel feel. Kimmy and John were the nicest people and super accommodating to all requests. They really do just want this to feel like home for a few days where you can relax and enjoy nature away from a lot of the craziness of Queenstown. I took advantage of the hiking and kayaking, but they also have tennis and golf and a host of other activites. Hot tub and sauna! If you are planning to go to QT, the drive there is gorgeous what isn't in this country?, and you can either do the backpackers thing and hitchhike or catch a ride with one of the friendly other guests who will inevitably be headed that direction. At the end of the day join the family dinner for a few bucks and enjoy recounting the day with the other guests. The dorm room built by John himself was very well done, shelves, power points, and lighting in each bunk and cubbies to store backpacks. The bathrooms are normal bathrooms this is their house after all and the living room / kitchen is as well. The other rooms look like equally great places to stay, as is Gus the Bus I got to stay a night here and it may be my favorite location so far. With a roaring fire and sauna I can only imagine how great this will be in the winter after a day at the Remarkables skiing. TL:DR - I couldn't recommend this highly enough. Book an extra few days because once you come you won't want to leave.
Lovely lodge with great facilities. Lots of free things to do. John and Kimmy are lovely too. We stayed in the container cabin which was so cool. Great place to stay if you want to be close to queenstown but out of the chaos.
The most amazing hostel I have been to. Ever! Doesn't even feel like one. It's more like a small villa where you stay with a bunch of nice people sauna, spa, cinema room, sports room and great rooms. And it's even quite cheap. If you're nearby, you have to check it out!!! Love it there
