a quick stop on the way up north and man so glad we did! service was friendly and fast. all the baked goods look delicious and rolls look fresh and tasty! not your typical sausage roll either, pastry was flaky and filling was delicious! even the cheese roll was nice and soft! definitely stop by again if we passing by.
Every time we go past here we grab the cream donut. The pies and sandwiches are also really good.nnIt's a great easy drop in cafe with friendly staff, , good parking and has a rest room and indoor/outdoor seating so a great option for a stop enroute north or south.
La Nonna is my favourite bakery and just like your favourite Nonna it would be rude to drive past without calling in. I have been coming here for many years, probably since it first opened.nnThey say life is about the journey, not the destination, but in my opinion La Nonna is 'the destination'nnLa Nonna is 'Holy Grail' of bakeries, consistently making simple treats into gourmet delights!nnOne of my favourites is a plain Mince Pie, the filling is rich and flavourful and the seasoning is well balanced. The mince and gravy does not ooze out when you eat it. The pastry base is firm and crusty, holds it's shape and does not fall apart. The top is glazed and golden brown and has a nice flakey puff that adds another layer texture. The aromatic savoury smell of the filling and buttery aroma of the crust combined with the visual appeal is unmistakably mouth-watering These are handmade gourmet pies, eschewing any fillers, artificial flavours, or colouring.nn*Every Kiwi loves a good pie and they are part of our culture and heritage and a symbol of national pride.nn*Kiwis have very strong opinions on what makes the 'best' meat pie and often is the catalyst for endless debates.nn*They say we have more sheep than people in New Zealand, but you can't pull the wool over our eyes, we are famous for our meat pies.nn*Kiwis eat more pies than any other country.nn*Kiwis love nothing better than watching a game of rugby, and no sporting event would be complete without a beloved meat pie.nn*Our deep relationship with the meat pie means that we will travel for miles to get our 'favourite' meat pie.nn*When Kiwis go on road trips, part of the journey is to find the 'best' pie.nn*They say a seven course meal for a Kiwi is a six pack and a meat pie.nn*The humble meat pie reflects the laid-back, no fuss attitude of New Zealander's and for many is the ultimate comfort food. It's often referred to as our national dish.nn*'Always blow on the pie'...is a famous Kiwi phrase that was coined from the footage of the long-running reality crime show Police Ten7. It was genuine, unscripted, deadpan advice, given by a New Zealand police officer, when investigating a suspect of vehicle theft at 3:00am in the morning, who claimed he was on the way to the service station to get a pie. The clip went viral after being posted online and became an iconic piece of New Zealand pop culture, inspiring T-shirts, memes, and even a South Park recreation.nnAnother favourite of mine is the Lamb Focaccia which is a traditional Italian flatbread sprinkled with rosemary and natural sea salt and generously filled with chunks of succulent roasted lamb, grated cheese, tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise. they also bake a range of artisan bread including focacciannThere is nothing more decadent and indulgent than the Long Fresh Cream Doughnuts! The dough is deep fried until golden brown and crispy on the exterior, then rolled in granulated sugar while still hot which gives them their signature crispy, crunch. The interior is pillowy soft and filled with a velvety smooth Chantilly Cream then finished with a dollop of of jam on top. The contrast in texture is sensational. Every bite is an explosion of flavour, and did I mention the coffee is amazing!nnEverybody has a Nonna that made food that was dear to them, food that we identify with, and food that made us smile. She made food from family recipes and culinary traditions that were handed down for generations. It was food that evoked a sense of nostalgia. It was food made with passion and love
Good pie great tasty filling.nnNice loos. But the bloke in the gents took for ages. I think he died in there. Certainly smelt like it.
A busy bakery on the main road of the North Island. Excellent baked goods, the cream doughnuts are amazing. They put a little jam all the way along the length under the cream, which a standout. Great muffins and great coffee too.nA busy store, which makes it a little less ideal for dine in, though still very good.
