Welcome to L’Epicerie Larder or the Larder for the aficionados.

L'Epicerie Larder is the sister shop of L'Epicerie Café and the house of Apteryx coffee roaster.
Discover a new experience with our large and private backyard. The larder is open everyday for breakfast and lunch and 3 nights a week for diner (Thursday, Friday and Saturday).
Treat yourself with an artisan burger or galette for lunch; enjoy a craft beer and a pizza with your friends after a hard day at work.

The deli section offers some delicious cheeses and cured meats mainly imported from France but also a carefully selected range of premium imported and local delicacies. Discover our range of home made sourdough breads, delicious pastries, gateaux and tartlets. Did I forget to mention our range of delicious home made with love pies?! Very nice place for share good moments with family or friends. There is a beautiful room and a backyard, where you can enjoy a delicious meal. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Delicious food with real french cheeses and homemade pastries, and coffee is just perfect! If you come in Whakatane don't miss this place.
What a wonderful little French Café. This place truly makes you feel like you're right there in France itself. The styling is very authentic, with French cuisine such as Croissants and Pain Au Chocolat, a library section full of real French books, and French staff who greet you by saying Bonjour. The inside seating is nice and cozy while there's also an outdoor seating area at the back of the cafe, which is quite large for a small café, and perfect to hide away from the rush of life for a bit. Even outdoors was styled nicely with massive pumpkins and growing plants. Throughout the café were speakers playing cute French music. I definitely recommend this place.

Service is fast and friendly, and the food is delicious highly recommend the apple and cinnamon croissants! They made me the garlic mushrooms without the bacon or egg but extra mushrooms - very tasty

We stopped in here for breakfast this morning, the while place has a rustic and unpretentious feel to it. There are relaxed dining spaces outside on a nice day. The cabinet selection was excellent lots of different filled croissant baguette, pastries and fresh squeezed orange juice, and all the food we bought tasted amazing. The only issue was the coffee, the reason we stopped in the first place, was quite average. It might have been an ID day for the barrister? I don't know but we'll go back again to check, just because we like the atmosphere and the food was great.
Very disappointing experience. We've aimed to have lunch there as the reviews were great and the info & images showed a back-yard. Bread was good, but not real french at all. No backyard seating options, only take-away offer & only a few items left for lunch. Food was o.k., but nothing to rave about. Sweet pastries looked average and no French specialities on that day. Well overpriced Croissant with ham & scrambled egg for $12. You wouldn't even pay that much in Auckland : Sad to see, as when we last came a few years ago this place was a gem. A few Bonne Maman glasses and french flag don‘t make a french place unfortunately.
Wow, the chicken and pesto baguette is amazing! The food is always on point and so much tastier than anything else in the area. The breads are all so beautiful too. Highly recommend!
