Story

Foundation and Philosophy

KoruKai Natural Herbal Products came to life after Cornelia did a one-year apprenticeship in herbal medicine. Our first child was nine months at the time and it felt like that it was high time to get the knowledge we need in order to treat our child when he is sick. By nature Cornelia is a DIY kind of person and has the need to do most things herself rather than buying processed products. She bakes all our bread, makes yoghurt, soft cheeses, soaps, cleaning products and much more to avoid preservatives and chemicals in our household.

In regard to our health we didn’t want to be dependent on a GP for the treatment of minor illnesses like stuffed nose, rashes, coughing, fever and other cold and flu symptoms. We always liked the idea of being able to go out into the garden, gather some herbs and make a healing tea. Avoiding prescription medication full of chemicals and antibiotics that damage the gut flora was a high priority when enrolling for the course. Soon we became absolutely passionate about herbal medicine as we saw the effects it had on our bodies. Infected wounds healed fast, nappy rashes disappeared, cold sores vanished in no time, coughing was relieved and we felt empowered. The business grew with more and more friends interested in a natural approach to health and we wanted to share the amazing products we have been making for our family. We started to sell the Baby Bottom Balm and worked on the perfect formula for a Skin Healing Salve. With the second baby on the way we developed our Postnatal Healing Range and I loved to be the first to test the products. Now they are very popular among midwives throughout New Zealand and the feedback we receive gives us energy for the path ahead. We are happy to produce handcrafted herbal products made with homegrown herbs and we love it that others enjoy them as much as we do. Our focus is to provide affordable herbal remedies for families with young children and skin care products that are chemical free and totally natural.
