Based 15 minutes east of Hokitika in Kokatahi, Kokatahi Helicopters is a family run business that provides numerous heli services such as heli-kayaking, rafting, hunting, fishing, scenic tours, sightseeing, heli-biking, frost protection, filiming and photography and search and rescue.

We booked a last minute flight with Matt over the glaciers and had an incredible experience. We were even able to land, saw wildlife and learned a lot along the way. Would highly recommend this tour.
On our way to the Hokitika Gorge we came upon Precision Helicopter Tours and decided to check it out. So happy we did because we had an amazing adventure!!! Matthew, the owner & pilot was very friendly and helpful, especially because I was scared since it was my first helicopter flight. He explained how the helicopter rides the air and what to expect and he was very funny making jokes to keep me calm the entire time. But once we were in the air, I was amazed at just how smooth the flight was and how absolutely gorgeous the view is from above! We saw more of the mountains and countryside in one trip than we would have in a weeks time on the ground. Matthew flew us up to the Wilkinson Glacier and talked about the history of the region all the way up. We flew by the glacier twice since we couldn’t fly over it due to strong winds. Our entire experience was spectacular and I’m so happy we stopped. It really is worth it to take a helicopter trip if you are the Hokitika area. And Matthew & his team will definitely make it worthwhile!
Absolutely highlight of our vacation. After spending a day in Franz Josef unsuccessfully waiting for the weather to clear we thought we had missed our chance to see the glaciers from above. Luckily we came across this place on our way to the Hokitika Gorge. We booked a flight for the next day and this turned out to be a great decision. It's a quite new family run company and everybody is absolutely lovely. The flight across the southern Alps was absolutely breathtaking. We saw many glaciers, waterfalls and spectacular landscape. Matt our piloye made us feel absolutely safe and gave some very interesting commentary about the landscape and geology. Don't hesitate a second to book this amazing tour. We did quite a lot of travelling but this beats everything so far. Thanks a lot to the whole team.

We came across Matt and his company quite by chance and we're really glad we did. Three of us myself my wife and a delightful English lady took off on an an hour flight over the six glaciers of the Southern Alps, in his brand sparkling new helicopter the ride was awesome the pictures we took breathtaking and the views picturesque I couldn't believe how smooth the flight was. Matt was extremely knowledgeable about the area and the glaciers and he made the trip so enjoyable highest accolade for any review is that we would happily return and do exactly the same fantastic value for money we wish Matt and his family all the best for the future
