They’re definitely exists better camping spots in New Zealand but it’s free and in a great location, with many spots to park in, next to the Tongariro area and next to a supermarket and gas station. Flush toilets open 24/7 for free, shower and stovetops and dishwashing sinks etc can be rented using a kiwi cash keycard.
Free overnight parking with lots of parking spaces. Also an option to book a secure one behind the boom for $10/night and additional $10/24hrs for power using kiwicash tag. Free wifi, free toilets, $2/5min hot showers, and other amenities for minimal fees dryer, dishwasher, cook top. Dump station and free freshwater tap also available by the entrance.
Great place to stay! Make sure you get your Penny card from the gas station or coffee cart before arrival $5. You can top it up online. This can be used in lots of locations in NZ.nnWe parked behind the barrier, plugged in, and used the cooktop. All of this cost $21 for three people. We scooted and skated around the empty parks.nnEveryone staying was respectful of others, helping to keep the facilities clean. We woke up with a great view of the mountains.nnAwesome place, will absolutely stay again!
While the space is very conveniently located, especially if you're doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, payment for showers or laundry is impossible if you don't have a specific card that you can't purchase on site, which was a let down. Spot to wash dishes with warm water was a plus. Plenty of parking spaces for campervans.
It gonna be one of my five stars camping place, great and clean shower/ toilet, power charging is hidden behind the drawer of the laundry room if u wanna plug ur phone.
