Tutoring in small groups
Each student follows a tutoring programme specifically designed to meet their particular needs. A tutor is assigned to supervise a small group of students. The maximum group size is 4 students per session. Tutors remain with the student over time and and understand each student's specific needs. The advantage to students is that they see they are not alone in finding some activities difficult and challenging.
Tutoring senior students
Students from Year 10 onwards are usually self-directed and work on specific areas of the English and Maths curriculum. Students at this level are encouraged to bring in their current assignments. Students also work on programmes designed to support the skills required at this level.
Homework
Homework is set to reinforce the learning activities undertaken at the Centre. The amount of homework is not excessive and is carefully monitored. We welcome feedback on the level and amount of homework set.
Assessments
The initial assessment enables us to gauge a student's tutoring needs, establish a starting point and design a customised learning programme. The programme is realistic, achievable and builds confidence through success. It also provides a starting point from which to measure progress. Each student is reassessed regularly, usually every 15 weeks. This provides a reliable indicator of progress and achievement. The results are reported and discussed with parents. The real results will be seen in increased confidence, skill levels and performance at school.
Communication
Ongoing contact between home and the Centre is vital and we provide regular feedback on each student's progress and challenges. We also encourage parents to contact us with any questions about their child's tuition.
Our aim is to provide each and every student with the highest standard of tutoring within a positive and friendly environment.
The programmes offered include:
English - reading, spelling, comprehension and writing skills
Maths - intervention and extension
