Stunning views, excellent food with nice and helpful staff. Unfortunately, the stay was ruined to no fault of the establishment itself by the persistent viciousness of the nearby sandflies. If you plan on staying, bring good insect repellent but if you forget, they do sell a range of products in their shop.Rooms: 4/5
Excellent rooms and very clean . Location wise the nearest place to get anything to eat is 26km away , so make sure you have backup . You can cook in wonderful kitchen. I came without anything thinking I will order from restaurant and the restaurant was closed for that day . Since I didn't want to drive 10 km in the gravel road , I skipped dinner . The hot tub is amazing
FIVE STAR PARTY DESTINATION - BETTER THAN CASTLE ST DUNEDIN!!!!! This is a great place if you have have a ute, beer and loudspeakers and want to get really drunk. Bring your own kegs and spirits as the bottle shop is an hours drive away. This review is here to let other guests know that if you want a ‘wilderness’ experience you should look elsewhere - the marketing does not reflect the reality.
Spectacular, cozy spot for a hidden getaway. We arrived tired and hungry after doing the Greenstone and Caples hike and despite the fact the chef was off/we normally wouldn't be able to dine, the owners kindly still put together a delicious platter for us with the highest quality produce. We were blown away by the gorgeous setting and hospitality- it truly was magical. The heritage rooms were sparkling clean and full of character, and and added bonus was the hot tub included for no extra cost with views out over the lake and mountains - you pay a lot for essentially the same experience at Onsen pools in Queenstown! Can't wait to come back for a family wedding in February - highly recommend to all.
Best accommodation i have ever booked in my life as a traveller! The 10k rock road does suck though but still absolutely breathtaking for a backpacker like meRooms: 5/5
Worth the trip out to middle earth and a place to stay after a walk. Walk up the road a little to find a bay to swim. Weka room has a stunning view.
The owner was very friendly, helpful and kind enough even took down our clothes hanging on washing lines when it started raining. Really appreciate that. The rooms are small but it's backpack style so this is not surprising. Very clean facilities - big kitchens. Love the dinning tables! What a great way to decorate dinning tables - with all these cool maps. Would like to have one of tgese at home! We were lucky enough to see hundreds of tiny frogs came to dry land due to the big rain. Definitely going back when visiting the region. Thank you!
Just spent the night here and my heart is so full. The remoteness and beauty of the area are second to none. The heritage rooms are so cosy, lovely lounge area with a big fire, the bathrooms are beautiful- big tubs! I literally had 2 baths. Not to mention the free use of the hot tub! Mountain views for days...cannot wait to stay in Ecoescapes tonight
Best venison meal we have had in New Zealand, even better than two years ago! Wonderful service from Toni. Well worth the lovely drive from Queenstown. A gorgeous spot to enjoy a drink before dinner. The interior of the restaurant is Old World charm. Thank you to the team for a lovely evening. From KatinkaService: 5/5
A hidden gem. Wow! I worked remotely WiFi included at kinloch for a week in January the WiFi was good enough for work calls! and I can't recommend it enough. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking with mountains all around. I enjoyed morning dips in the lake and jacuzzi dips in the evening. The space has shared kitchen and lounge with lots of fridge space. The owners and two resident dogs are delightful and made me feel very welcomed. Make sure you try breakfast and dinner since the home cooked food there is really excellent with locally sourced ingredients. I also enjoyed yoga and meditation in the yurt with brilliant lessons given by a trained yoga teacher staff member. Down the road about 5 mins drive or 20 mins walk towards greenstone there is an amazing swim and fire spot photos show this. there are also great day walks nearby. It's a perfect base for routeburn and greenstone. I am so grateful to have found this spot. It was the highlight of my trip around the south Island. Thank you so much for having me and I will be back to work remotely at some point!
