Surprised that such an amazing restaurant is tucked away in the hidden nook and crannies of Wanaka. ALL the piccolos were on point! Each one was better than the next. Produce was fresh, flavours were balanced, and the dishes were not derivative of one another. Actually their main dish was probably the biggest let down the lamb, but still delicious. Two most stunning dishes were the beef tartare and the gnocchi. Honourable mentions include the seared tuna and the venison and beetroot. The mulled wine was also sublime. Pity that we'll only get to eat here once on the trip, but was very glad for the suggestion.
A tapas styled restaurant where you share dishes with your table. The food is beautifully presented and the portions are generous, unlike other fine restaurants. The vibe is casual but elegant. The total bill came up to be very reasonable as well. Would recommend a visit when you are in Wanaka. You can easily make a reservation on their website.
Had an amazing birthday dinner here for my partner. We are vegan - the food was amazing and the service was fast. All the meals were delicious. Highly recommend the "Just Feed Me" option if you have a few people who can help eat it all, otherwise ask for a take out container. It makes a great meal the next day too! Perfect for vegans - so many options. Our daughter had KFC Kika Fried Chicken and Creme Brulee for dessert. Very clean, warm and comfortable restaurant. Highly recommended.
We had a good meal at Kika. The tofu and the fried chicken were delicious! Goat cheese toast was good. The lamb shoulder was very tasty and the meat was soft The cabbage was just ok with nothing special. Broccolini dish was a bit too oily for our taste. Drinks were yummy. Service was great and we thought the staff was very friendly.
Wow!!!! I’m still thinking about this place 5 days later the food was amazing best gnocchi I have had in years. The fried chicken was just crispy, crunchy and delicious. And the deserts so hard to explain how good they are you just gotta go try it
An incredible dining experience that you'd not expect to find in a small town like this. A must after a hard day on the mountains. The flavours are so perfectly balanced and the combination of crunchy and soft textures make for a divine culinary experience. Pretty reasonably priced for what you're getting as well. Definitely add to your itinerary as a treat!
Good dinning place at wanaka. We opt ‘just feed me’ from menu for surprises everything was great except the main chicken dish was not great. PICCOLOstarter and dessert were great really enjoyed that.
Decadent and very sharable meal- one of the best we’ve had in New Zealand. We ordered a few starters— the salmon and the fried chicken— and then the duck leg confit and the truffle mushroom gnocchi. They walked us through each dish and what sizes things were, so we knew what to order. Wine list was also very well done, and both wines we ordered were great. Everything was phenomenal and the service was excellent. Highly, highly recommended and reserve in advance!
To be fair, I think the food might be considered “good enough” compared to other restaurants in this small town. However, if you come from other metropolises like I do, then you might share the same view - there is plenty of space for improvement. Some of the dishes have great combinations of taste and texture, but the others are more like a mix of components from different cultures. There is a lack of connection to make ppl feel it’s an “integrated presentation”. I think that’s something the Chef can work on.
One of our favourite restaurants in New Zealand! We tried to pick a standout dish from dinner, but they were all different and offered something special. Honourable mentions go to the beef tartare, those brussel sprouts!, the lamb shoulder and the chocolate mousse. We hope we don't have to wait another 3 years to come back.
