Highly recommend you take the time to visit this hidden gem. Make sure to drive down this gravel road and walk through the woods to find the best spot to soak. You will love the small hike as you relax in the perfect temperature water on a winter day. Find the small waterfall of approximately 38C water and feel the amazing massage as the water beats down on your back. You swim at your own risk here so be mindful of the risks. We love this spot & recommend to other adults to visit. No payment is required for this visit.
Natural hot spring - parking lot nearby and then you can walk down to the spring and soak for a bit. Lovely to be able to experience hot pools outside of a paid, manmade place. It is natural, so be careful to test the water before getting in as temperatures can vary. Please also remember not to get your face wet - there is a long, small natural waterfall that is beautiful and inviting, but the water can have amoeba in it and getting this up your nose etc can lead to very serious infection. We were also warned to be careful of valuables as the car park is secluded and there had been break-ins in the past.
Nice little hideout near Rotorua to enjoy the famous hot pools. Not very crowded and ample parking space, although it's a rough ride on the dirt road. Public toilets also available.
A very unique experience and well worth the trip. The road is a little stoney to drive on so go slow on approach. Great fun and oddly warn flowing river!
My favourite four letter word - FREE! People say the the thermal hot pools of the river here is dirty. In ancient Roman times, people use to bathe in hot thermal pools where the water didn't circulate and if you had a festering wound you would die from infection. Here the water of the creek is fast flowing, new water is circulating making it absolutely clean. I could see the bottom of the river. Highly recommend. It is very popular, the car park was full. This is on a working day during the middle of the week. The temperature of the water is warm, making it absolutely lovely. Not too hot and not too cold, the goldilocks zone.
Very short walk after a long gravel road not too bad. The water was nice and warm, be careful it can get very hot. You can go there early to avoid crowds even though it can be a little scary if you don’t know the area. Don’t miss out.Visited onWeekday
Such an epic spot. We made our way down the track to get away from the fairly busy section. Found a great wee area down the back. The water temp was just perfect. The bush setting couldn't be better. We enjoyed floating down the creek and spent over two hours here. This really was bliss. Totally free and absolutely worth the visit
Who doesn't love a good soak in hot pools in the middle of the forest, and it's free! The toilets are awful, the lock is broken and they are dingy but that can be ignored because this place is a must visit. Best early morning or after dark because during the day it's packed but I visited school holidays though. I stayed the night but made sure others were too because it's down a long gravel road and would be scary on your own.
The creek water is hot with a few cascades you can sit under. Too shallow to swim the creek but it makes for easy paddling
Prepare to walk in bare feet as ground can be very muddy after rain...but it's only mud and not stoney. When you walk down from car park there is an entry to right that is not easy but if you go left there are lots of other areas to take a dip. So explore left and keep going up and around the first flat spot which is easy to dip feet in the mini falls or sit in for a back massage. The next is more impressive...there is a gap to the left where you can lower yourself on to some rocks to get in the creek. You can keep going but these 2 spots were all I needed for a free natural hot water dip to break up the journey between Taupo and Rotorua. Take a towel and togs as the temptation to get in when you think I'll just have a look is great. But for even just a look is still worth the 15 minute return walk. And if you take your mountain bike ride back down the gravel road and look for a sign entry on the right as it avoids a lot of blackberry over growth and don't forget to turn right where there is a junction sign posted as I road past it and ended up going down to the car park that is off the main road....best for just planning to ride as slightly shorter...but I prefer the bumpy gravel road way so can have the kerosene creek experience.
