If you are thinking of coming to Kawhia to go big game fishing, digging your own hot pool or just to relax in the peace and tranquility, then come stay with us.

We have modestly priced accommodation to suit everyone. Adjacent to bar, shops, cafe and restaurant, right opposite the harbour. Only a 20 second walk across the road to the big game fishing tours.

Kayaks and bikes can be arranged.

Kawhia is also home to a hot water beach where you can dig yourself a hot pool.

Kawhia Motel Whaanau of 9 7 adults 2 toddlers booked into the Kawhia Motel a weekend getaway booked 2 family rooms. 4 of us including 1 toddler got put into room 7 next door to the office. First impressions stepping foot inside, a door the that had access from the office into the room, knowing these people have full access to the room even if guest aren't staying in it. Walk up a narrow dark stairway to the second floor to a bathroom that had wobbly tiles, a room that had roaches, a kitchen that had a dirty fridge with food in it no milk aswell as the freezer also had food in it, a pantry that had food in it. Dishes and cutlery that were dirty, rooms didn't feel clean at all, didn't even sleep in the bedding because we didn't feel comfortable sleeping in the sheets, we all stripped our beds and slept in our own blankets we brought. The railing to go up the stairway had massive gaps between each railNOT CHILD SAFE This room was an absolute disgrace... disappointing to hear people actually live in this room and move out when they book it out to people DISGUSTING!! The second room had the other 3 adults and other toddler in it. Kitchen wasn't clean, the bathroom felt dirty as well as the room, didn't feel like it had been vacuumed at all. This place isn't even worth give a 1 star rating. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Kawhia itself is a beautiful place, this motel puts it to shame
This one star is not for the rooms as we didn’t even stay in the hotel, but for what we experienced as guests. We booked one room in this hotel and arrived at 3pm, so one hour after the earliest check in time. There was nobody at the reception at all when we arrived, and we rang the bell several times without any luck. Then I called both numbers that were on the window of the reception, nobody answered. I also called the number given to me during reservation, it was some person that was not related to the hotel at all. We also asked some other guests, they said they didn’t see the owner for a while. After waiting over an hour doing all of this, we decided to just leave and go sleep somewhere else. I left many messages by phone and email, nobody ever answered back to us. Never saw that in my life, I would really recommend staying away from this place.
Very clean and tidy room. Everything was well decorated and presented. The facility is not modern but good for the money. We liked it. Thanks for the hospitality.
It's a small town motel but perfectly good in its category. Our room no 1, sea view was clean, with all the necessities, comfortable. No complaints.
Location is absolutely incredible. Right in the heart of the town and ridiculously close to everything. The rooms are in OK condition and the bathroom shower really needs a major over haul. But for kawhia, it really is decent and a great safe place to lay your head down for the night after a busy day of adventures.
It was a miserable little room with two bunks and a double bed with a horrible mattress. Not even a small table just two chairs and it costed us almost 100nzd. We only took it as it was pouring and we were exhausted and cold. One common bathroom and shared kitchen. The views in the morning were great and it was the only good thing about the place. Horribly inflated price for what we got.
Arrived late with the entire village without power. With the help of "Clive" the really nice duty person we were able settle in quickly with no fuss. We were here in Kawhia for a Tangi and were a wee bit worn out after a very long trip. It was good for us to have chosen this motel as it covered all of our needs. All we had to do was ask "Clive",when we needed something, nothing was a problem. In all a wonderful no fuss old fashion sea side establishment. Thank you Von and Arangi - Unit 1
Nice quiet relaxing place to holiday, and explore .The food shops and cafe were great, the locals were very friendly and also other holiday makers. Our motel had everything we needed thoroughly enjoyed.
Friendly service, clean and it's a good location in the town. But the place needs some maintenance work done and is too expensive considering that and when compared to other small town motels around Central North Island.
Would not stay there again the dish cloth looked like thay had washed the floor with it all thay did was got our money and went away for 2 nights you really should get some better cleaners
