Great cruise from Sandspit North Auckland to Kawau Island. Highlight of the cruise was going through the different bays as part of the mail run. Would recommend taking the later ferry home usually at 4 or 4.30 so that you have plenty of time to explore the island.
Wonderful experience, dropped post and food for the residents, and spent the day walking swimming and adventuring on the island. Highly recommended.

Great day out We went on the postal run and got the lunch option. We also managed to get a discounted price through a third party which made it quite cost effective. The boat trip out was great, but we chose the wrong day, if you want the full experience pick Mon, Wed or Fri as those are the days the mail goes out. But on our day there were still people and packages to deliver, so not a huge loss. The lunch was very nice, but not very much, I would suggest you take snacks with you. There are two pickup times, the first at 2pm was back on the same boat, the second at 4:30 is by boat taxi, which is much smaller, we chose the taxi option and the taxi that fits 17 had about 14 on board, so a little cramped, but also something different
Would rate this higher if there were a 6th star available! The good people managing the point of departure are absolute legends! A short trip with interesting history of the Island explained. Mikey our well humoured water taxi driver, slowed to 5 knots and an entourage of dolphins escorted us for several kilometers, on a environmental day trip to Motuora - Island of Wellness. Reliable, timely service. Highly recommend.
We had a terrible experience with Kawau Cruises today. We booked our tickets online and arrived in Sandspit to take our cruise to Kawau Island. When we checked in, we were told we would be on a different boat to usual. The boat was so small and didnt have enough seating for people. This was to be a 2 hour cruise so standing was not an option. When I complained about the lack of seating to the driver, he was rude as and said there was no other option as their main ferry boat was not working. The driver of the other boat was also so rude and said the company were under no obligation to have enough seating for those on board a 2 hour cruise! His attitude was appalling and he really made a bad situation so much worse. The woman in the main office was the only helpful person which is why I have given this experience one star. She has organized a refund for us. This is really so poor, people are paying over a hundred bucks each for a 2 hr cruise only to be stuffed into a small boat with rubbish facilities and hardly any seating. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this company is also breaking health and safety regulations with the way they were cramming people on boats today.
This is my second time visiting Kawau Island. The first time I visited was during the weekend and the cruise and the island was pretty busy but the second time I went during a week day and there was just a hand full of people! It was like your private Island. Perfect for a good picnic and plenty of spaces for the kids to run around. Couple of good walking tracks. The cafe in the island is closed so make sure you bring your own snacks. Never ever feed the peacocks on the island coz they will never leave ur side. Also just look where you place your mat, the birds seem to poop everywhere!
The Royal Mail Cruise lets you see the other parts of the island, the houses, and their jetties. Unfortunately, some tracks were closed due to fallen pine trees. I got a good deal from BookMe; otherwise, I wouldn't pay full fare for the ferry ride.
I have used this service to get out to Kawau Island more than once for both personal and business groups. They are efficient and friendly. The walks over the Island beautiful safe and well maintained.
