Nice view at the dam on a fine day.
Lovely little spot in Karapiro with established oak trees giving plenty of shade in summer. The views down to the lake are awesome and if you are lucky there may be a regatta going and you can see the crews rowing. Maungatautari can be seen in the distance. Public toilets available at the car park.
Beautiful and peaceful! Take a picnic. Take a book. Take a moment.
Karapiro Dam lookout is Just 10km away from Cambridge.. Wonderful stop over for family/friends if you are travelling from Auckland to taupo. Nice scenic lookout at dam from top and nearby villages.
It's a nice lookout and nice to stop for a picnic, snack or just a rest. Enough space. In my case I was wanting to cross the wall, but it's been closed to traffic for what seems like forever as at end November and I annoyingly had to make a big detour to get to the other side of the river. Granted, there was signage, but only within about half a km of the wall, so just bear that in mind.
