To celebrate our 30th wedding anniversaries, four couples were in search of a truly special adventure — we found Kapiti island Nature to be the perfect tour and place to go.nFrom start to finish, every member of the team made our experience unforgettable. Whether it was the warm welcome, the expert guiding by day and night including the incredible kiwi-spotting walk!, or the great meals and thoughtful care over our two-day stay, we were looked after so beautifully. You all turned our celebration into something magical, filled with joy, connection, and lasting memories. We left Kapiti Island changed — no longer seeing it as a cold, dark place, but as one that is alive with light, nature, and spirit. Thank you for everything.
Just arrived back from a amazing overnight trip with Kapiti Nature Tours . We took out 2 teenage boys who absolutely loved it as well. Some highlights were the speedy boat ride over , the Takahae just chilling out by the lodges , the cheeky but not too cheeky kaka , the noisy little blue penguins, getting to see a kiwi on the night walk, the views and of course the food and hospitality. The food was really sensational and the relaxed but informative guides created a very memorable experience. Would totally recommend all New Zealanders visit this magical place.
I knew prior to embarking on this experience that Kapiti Island was a haven for birds and natural wonder, but what awaited us, far exceeded my expectations. I loved the ferry over from Paraparaumu to Kapiti, the tractor pulling us out from the beach into the ocean, was quite a memorable actvity in itself! Our guide Tim, was incredibly passionate, knowledgable and entertaining. He taught myself and my family lots about the hardships of Kapiti, and how it became the bird sancturary that it is today. I wouldn't call myself a bird enthusiast, but Tim certainly made me wish for binoculars and a notebook to write my findings. We had the fortunate or unfortunate opportunity to see a kiwi pukupuku little spotted kiwi in the daylight as it was unwell and laid close to the paths edge. It was amazing to see conservation in action as the rangers carefully removed the kiwi from it's environment and sent the bird on a ferry to get further help on the mainland. Other stand outs were the cheeky Kaka, Takahe and Pukeko at the lodge, where we enjoy a delicious lunch before taking a short tour around the lodge and heading back on the boat. Everyone, regardless of your bird knowledge, should head to Kapiti Island. I did the Classic Tour, but if you want to go the extra mile, consider glamping! Thank you Kapiti Island Nature Tours :
We went on a half day trip to Kapiti Island. A friendly team met us on Paraparaumu Beach and helped us on to the boat bound for the island. The guide who greeted there us was kind and informative. She started walking with us and then allowed us to follow the trails independently giving us directions to the lodge to have lunch. Listen carefully as the lodge is on private land and therefore is not on the map provided by the Department of Conservation.nThe island is beautiful and filled with bird songs. It’s best to study up before you go so you can know which bird to look for when you hear it!
Be prepared for your trip to be canceled in your face even after arrival and check in. In a region full of boats they obviously have no contingency plan if something happens to theirs. Communication from staff was poor.nAfter traveling with a school group and this happening we were pretty let down.
