This was our second visit here—once at the beginning of our New Zealand trip and again at the end—and it certainly didn’t disappoint.nnThe freshly battered blue cod fillets were absolutely delicious, with a light, crispy batter cooked to perfection by Chef Dan. For dessert, we couldn’t resist the pineapple fritters coated in cinnamon sugar, and they were every bit as good as they sound!nnWe also enjoyed the halloumi fritters on the side, beautifully cooked with a soft, gooey centre and not overdone.nnWhat really makes this place special, though, is Dan himself. A genuinely lovely and personable guy who was happy to chat with us about our travels around New Zealand and made us feel incredibly welcome.nnA fantastic meal, great company, and the perfect way to bookend our South Island adventure. Highly recommended!
Coming from Christchurch, I'm not a fan of fish and chips and will never buy it because I've not eaten a good one so far. This fish and chips is the BEST I've ever had. We ordered 2 fish of the day rig and a scoop of chips to try at noon time. It was so good that we came back again at 4pm before we left Akaroa and had another serving. The fish was fresh, texture was good and the batter was really crispy. The chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Although a little pricey, it's definitely worth paying for.
I highly recommend everyone to come and try the fish and chips at Kimona Takeaways, especially because of Chef Dan! He makes some of the most amazing fish and chips I’ve ever had — perfectly cooked, super fresh, and incredibly tasty.nnWhat really makes the experience special is Chef Dan himself. He’s so friendly, easy to talk to, and genuinely a very sweet person, which adds such a warm and welcoming vibe to the place. You can tell he really cares about both his food and his customers.nnThe entire service was excellent from start to finish — from the way the food was prepared to how it was served. The portions were also huge, great value for money, and every bite was delicious.nnIf you’re craving great fish and chips, this is definitely the place to be. Don’t miss out — go try Chef Dan’s fish and chips at Kimona Takeaways!
Absolutely delicious. Reasonable price. A little off the main street but nice outdoor eating place. Chips wrapped in white paper. Hot and fresh. 2 ladies cooking mostly self serve.
Thank you chef Dan for your hospitality The crumbed Blue cod was crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. The Kumara & potato chips were nicely seasoned and paired very well with the Aioli.nOne of the best places to eat in Akaroa. Will definitely revisit in the future.nTanmy
