The Kaikoura A&P Show is held on the last Saturday in February at the South Bay racecourse followed by the PGG Wrightson Show Jumping Circuit on Sunday
The first Kaikoura A&P Show was held in 1906, with only 7 shows missed between then and now due to war, an epidemic and increased railway activity then in 2017 from the November Earthquake damage in 2016.
This Show was held at the old recreation grounds, which are now the campgrounds on Beach Road.
Accounts of this show have up to 800 entries competing and people attending, who came from far and wide for that first show.
As there were no roads north or south at the time, most people who travelled some distance to get there came by boat, The SS Wakatu made a special voyage on the Monday before Show weekend from Lyttleton to get all the keen show-goers to Kaikoura.
We need as much help from the community and the wider communities to help keep our country show running.
As the years go on it's getting harder and harder to find those most valued volunteers that keep our show going.
