Kaierau Netball hosts both social and competitive club netball teams in Whanganui, it is part of the family friendly and positive Kaierau Country Club.
In 1977 a gathering of a group of women was held, with the intention to start a Netball club adjunct. In 1978 this dream became reality and an official meeting was held with the Kaierau Rugby Club officials. From this meeting the Kaierau Netball Club was formed.
Their very first fundraiser was a bottle drive!!
The club progressively swelled and in1983 the club began playing premier grade for the first time. In 1987 a further boost to the club occurred when the remnants of Panthers Club turned out for Kaierau. The club then fielded two teams in premier grade. The A team played outstanding netball which enabled the club to win the Premier Grade championship three years in a row, along with the Smith Trophy in 1988 for excellence and sportsmanship.
Sadly, this success ended in 1990 when some of the players decided to move elsewhere, however the club continued to field competitive teams in other grades successfully. Shortly after this the club re-entered premier grade, with the club being runner up on a number of occasions and continuing to win various grade championships.
The 2012 season was again a very successful year for the Kaierau Netball Club, with both the A1 and A2 teams making the Premier Division, and the A1 team winning the league and claiming the Premier 1 Championship!
Congratulations also to the B2's who finished 2nd in the Premier 2 grade, and the C1's for winning their grade also. Great results all round!
