Since my last visit, its standard has dropped. The fish wasn't as fresh as expected and I've had much better one's. However, the batter is light and crispy. Unless I am passing that way, I won't go all out of way to have a meal there.
Customer service very welcoming, good service. Food was really lovely definitely worth the money we spent lol we got extra chips thinking they wouldn't give much. Well we were wrong there. Oh and the chocolate bars definitely pay $5 for that was nice and cold for a hot day, such a good idea Oh and the corn fritter was something different but lovely different Thank you for the beautiful kai and your amazing service! Also a nice park up the road to eat at with plenty of picnic tables, just turn left out the driveway only around the corner.
A wonderful place to stop for a feed. Food was top notch. Kumura fries fantastic. Gurnard and Terakihi fish fillets well worth the $. So freah and tasty.Food: 5/5
Was staying in the neighborhood for a couple of nights and got some fish and chips here as was recommended by my host. I had read some reviews saying that the prices were quite high. I paid 10.70 for quite a filling meal of hoki & chips; which is not expensive to me. The fries were well done and crispy, the fish was fresh and flaky. Staff was kind and welcoming!
Really nice fish and chip shop - welcoming friendly service. The fish was fresh and the chips were perfect! A decent amount of space for seating indoor and outdoor so customers can “dine in”. Could also buy an alcoholic beverage if drunk on premises. Delightful spot to have F&C if you’re passing through Kaioua.

Awesome fish n chips - some of the best I have had. I tried their gurnard and the batter was thin and crispy. Chips were crunchy and tasty. They offer vinegar for the chips, which isn’t common in New Zealand. They also had a “spicy salt” that was really good on both the fish and chips. Very affordable prices. Just a great, small, local, fish n chip shop.
Got here a little late and was worried that we missed the last order, thankfully they were still welcoming guests.. had the family pack shared among 3 of us, it was big and super valuable.. super fresh Hokis which was lovely.
This takeaway is the best crisp fresh fish n chips we’ve ever had. So generous with the pieces of fish and chips. We would definitely recommend them to anyone either staying at the NZMCA park or passing thru. Parking: Great large parking area for cars and motor homes.
I loved the beach and this fisheries so much and have been here time by time for about 20yrs. This is the first time I have noticed that the quality dropped down significantly. Both oil and fish were not fresh. It provided very fresh seafoods with good price before. During the last few years, the seafoods were fresh although the prices were not cheap anymore. It’s still acceptable as long as high quality of foods. Today the prices were even more expensive and the Hoki is a smaller piece. Fish and Chips of this kind of quality with better prices is everywhere in Auckland.
