We are a community-led social enterprise providing healthy lunch options to schools and local businesses in the South Waikato region of NZ.
Rural food insecurity is a reality in some areas of NZ. Many children are attending school without having breakfast or lunch or both. There are a number of socio-economic and environmental factors that discourage healthy eating such as poverty, marketing, culture, food literacy (or lack of) and the local food environment.
Our programme aims to build Community Food Security - when all persons obtaining, at all times, a culturally acceptable, nutritionally adequate diet through local non emergency sources.
Ka Pai Kai is a multi-component community-led intervention to combat food insecurity in the Waikato Region of New Zealand.
Our programme uses local ingredients to prepare, cook and provide healthy lunch options for schools and local businesses. The idea is simple, we want to improve access to healthy food and ensure the food is affordable for schooling families. Businesses and community members can support with our "Buy one, get two, one for a kid in need and one for you" scheme.
