Story

At Whakatane Boarding Kennels and Cattery, pet care isn’t just a business, it’s a passion! Gina and Craig are trained veterinarians who live on site, with Gina practicing locally and Craig working for a leading Animal Health Company. The kennel accommodates up to 36 dogs in individual runs, with ample supervised time in secure outdoor paddocks to exercise and socialize. The cattery offers indoor and outdoor play areas, with each cat having its own private space to retreat to. Super Premium Royal Canin food is on the menu, and special needs can be catered for. Veterinary supervision gives you complete peace of mind when your pet comes to stay!

We’ve known Gina for about a year now and ever since she’s been absolutely outstanding with Stanlee. He’s a baths!t crazy 3 year old Staffie and she’s fantastic with him. He’s been going to K9 Retreat Center weekly since the week it opened and we now can’t say “Gina” without him getting super excited. Living with a dog that just doesn’t stop, K9 Retreat Center is easily the best £30 I spend all week as it ensures we don’t hear a peep out of him for the next few days!! Photo evidence taken 15 minutes after getting home We are so happy with daycare and couldn’t recommend it highly enough, Stanlee is in great hands and probably treated better there than he is at home!!!
Gina and her team at K9 Retreat have been so patient and helpful with my Little rescue dog who's very nervous around other dogs. to see him play with other dogs without a muzzle on was fantastic and heart warming,if I could give 10 stars I would,I wouldn't hesitate in recommending K9 retreat for socialisation, day care,any behaviour issues and doggy holiday's
Oh my goodness, I cannot say enough food things about K9 Retreat. They are absolutely amazing. I have 2 rescue dogs and they have always gone above and beyond with caring for and working with them. They are so kind to everyone who walks through the door and keep you updated with how your dogs are doing. Personally, I have had times where my dogs are behaving so good and some days where they are acting out and in the times they are being naughty, they are wonderful about letting you know and staying with them making them feel comfortable if it's too much for the dog that day. I love how they understand that dogs have emotions and good days and bad days and always talk so kindly about the dogs even on the rough days. I absolutely recommend K9 retreat.
I couldn't be more happy to leave my dog in the care of Gina and her team at the K9 Retreat Center; something that doesn't come easy to me! I have a large breed that can be and is often misunderstood by others. Gina welcomed us for a meet & greet session where she did the only thing I could have asked and looked at the dog in front of her with no pre-judgement. Since then, my dog has got so much out of being there only a few times...she's made tonnes of doggy friends, she's calm, content and much less harder work at home. I'm very impressed with the setup and the facility as well as all the fab people there. I'd highly recommend getting in touch with them and going along to a meet & greet.
We've been taking our puppy here since he was about 3.5 months. He absolutely loves it! He's grown in confidence tons since attending and hasn't picked up any bad behaviours. They're very flexible too which makes our lives much easier since our schedules change every week. They know our pup well and give us daily updates on how he is doing. We will also be boarding our pup with Gina over Christmas and are happy to know our trip will be worry free.
