Dog exercise and training experts. Specialising in behavioural work offering training / daycare / homestay
K9 Cadets is unique in the industry. We are first and foremost a training facility where all staff are dog trainers with clear understanding of dog body language / communication and how a pack (including us) work as one.
Our visiting dogs have a balanced day. Basic manners to more advanced training sessions are practiced throughout their stay (waiting at gates / not pulling on leads / confidence building / group down stays / spacial boundary work etc.), they experience off-site pack lead walks (a mix of on and off lead), and enjoy a controlled environment for free time where they can play freely knowing that any bully play, pushy or controlling inappropriate behaviour are not allowed.
We understand that no dog is perfectly behaved and if your dog has issues (small or large) we will identify this. We won’t’ ban misbehaving dogs, nor will we let it intimidate, or be intimidated by the rest of the pack. What we will do is address the problem and strive to fix it. We will be open and honest about how your dog is doing and should any issues arise we will discus this with you and work out a suitable plan to resolve the issues (training fees may apply).
Our aim is to give your dog plenty of exercise and fun, but also a day of learning. We will provide exercise, play, mental stimulation - confidence building, calming work, self-control sessions and more so your dog comes home physically and mentally tired. Like us, dogs continue to learn and grow each day of their lives so we do our best to make every day count with new life lessons and skill development.
Introduction Day – compulsory for all new Cadets
Your dog will need to attend an introduction day before coming to us for day care or homestay. This is a one-off cost (please see the pricing list). We will have a chat with you at pick-up about how your dog went and recommendations for an on-going training plan if it is a behavioural case.
If you would like a half-hour lesson on our training methods, including lead walking, down stays etc. and how to continue this training we can do this at pick-up (Please note that this will need to be booked in advance. In this case, pick-up will generally need to be at 5 pm. There is a $50 charge for this).
On introduction day we start with a one-on-one lead training walk. This is a bonding time for us and your dog, where we get to know each other. We establish the role of leader, guider, protector and companion. This provides your dog with trust in us. Your dog will feel calm and secure when being introduced to the pack and ensures we will be listened to by your dog within the daycare / homestay environment. Your dog will also learn our on-lead follow command and will be able to join in our pack bonding lead walks and down stay sessions.
We LOVE when our clients continue the training we do here, with your dogs at home. If you’re keen, we will help you follow through with this from the second you pull into our car park. We want you to be able to keep your dog calm and focused on you and us from opening your car door on drop off, to closing it at the end of the day. Great things happen when we become our dogs leaders.
