Kākano Youth Arts Collective

About

Based at Corban's Estate Art Centre and led by Mandy Patmore, Kākano is a group of talented West Auckland youths with huge artistic talent!

Story

Since 2013, Kākano Youth Arts Collective has grown from strength to strength. As a collective we have played a key role in mural and sculpture installations in West Auckland, been commissioned by the Henderson-Massey Local Board and other West Auckland organisations to produce art for the community, featured in the Love Hendo campaign amongst many other arts events, partnered with Unitec for the Henderson Youth Arts Project, and the list goes on!

In our weekly art workshops at Corbans Estate Arts Centre (Studio 6), we get to try out different art mediums and processes, and discover which of these we want to pursue. Through Kākano we are able to build up a body of artworks and the confidence, focus and skills we develop better prepare us to be ready for other opportunities, whether in training, paid work or further education. Each year we also bring all of our work together into one show, where we get to invite our friends and whānau to see what we’ve created.

We love our place in the community and the fact that we can bring art, colour and culture to the beautiful people of West Auckland.

You can stay connected with our work by following us on Facebook (@KakanoYouth) or on Instagram (@kakanoyoutharts).
