Came here two days in a row because it is that good. Brothers reviewed the ribs as the best they've ever had - super tender, fall off the bone, fresh can tell it hasn't been frozen, perfect seasoning and sauce. One brother rated the chowder even higher then the ribs so that's saying something. Delicious, hot, creamy seafood goodness. Wings were well cooked and tasty. Wedges and fries were delicious. Apple pie had a crumble like topping and was absolutely perfect way to end the meal. Can get quite busy / noisy around dinner time but that's just a sign of how popular the food is here. Attentive staff and excellent portion sizes.
We managed to get a seat pretty much straight away there's almost always a queue. The staff were wonderful with really quick. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the ribs, they are melt in your mouth good. The pasta was a little too creamy almost sickly but still nice. Kid-friendliness: High chair available
Oh my gosh, their crab dip is SO good. We ordered the scotch fillet and the twisted ribs, with the crab dip and calamari starter. Absolutely delicious, all of it! The meat was incredibly tender practically falling off the bone!. Portions are very generous, and everything was fantastic. Very attentive and lovely staff, also! :
Customer service was absolutely , polite, fast at seating us on a Sunday, lunchtime service. Our drinks came out super fast, followed by our food not too long after. Place was clean, bit warm but thats okay. Overall, I was pleased with the overall experience of finally making it to Jimmy Jack's. Cocktails were lovely also. Thank you ladies and gentlemen for your service. Will be back soon.
Delicious food, great service and generous portions. Sat outside and enjoyed the Summer evening. It's been three years since we've been back to Paihia and Jimmy Jack's. The food is good as I remember it. They did charge for the containers to take food home $1.00 each. Never been charged before by a cafe or restaurant, so not sure about that, but I know they need to buy them. Definitely a good place to go, and they cater for children as well. Just watch out for those hungry seagulls outside, they'll take any opportunity to steal whatever food they can! They think it's their Christmas if you finish, leave, and there is still food there!
I strongly recommend visiting this place, food is divine! We ordered a very delicious and creamy seafood chowder, and pork ribs with so much meat on the bones and a delicious crab dip. All dishes are huge and generous and many people ask for take-away containers. Despite that the restaurant was packed, our meals and drinks weren't mixed up and came out very quickly, hot and freshly prepared.
Went for the premium rib platter… got all the meats as described in the menu plus a LOT of potato 4 different ways: wedges these were like half of the main plate, fries, curly fries, potato salad- not sure why it needed that much of potato, plus onion rings and corn chips. Would’ve preferred 2 of those sides substituted with a green salad or something fresh otherwise it just looked too greasy, we didn’t even touched most of it. The ribs were spot on & the crab dip was really nice Not too sure about the apple cider on tap - tasted like a lemonade. Overall, a good vibe, family friendly and prob needed some music.
Good hearty food and try the cocktails. We were looking for somewhere to grab a good feed after a day sightseeing in and around Paihia. The other half had Ribs and Chicken both falling off the bone, lovely and tender while I went for the Pizza Burger think a Pizza Bun and home made burger as I'm not really a rib fan. We were seated quickly and our order was taken shortly thereafter. Drinks were bought out within a few minuets but the food took a good 20 mins to arrive. We didn't mind as it was busy but be mindful if you are expecting your food quickly. A few more cocktails were ordered all very drinkable and no room left in the belly to try desert. Friendly staff and very clean. Recommended if you like ribs and don't mind a little wait.
Finally I had the opportunity to get to know this famous place, sadly at first the welcoming was terrible, but it was the only bad thing, we asked a table for 7 people but at the time there were only 5 of us present, so the man at the entrance denied us a table under what must be the stupidest policy I have ever heard, instead of letting us in to freshen up with a drink while we waited for our friends this person made us wait outside eventhough there were some empty tables inside, just because "incomplete groups can not enter" we had to wait outside "Queued" but there was no one else waiting, no one else came, even so this person went out on another occasion to repeat the same absurd policy, absurd because it prevents customers from start consuming on the restaurant, it is quite silly, especially for what it is " NZ's most famous ribs." On the contrary, the service inside is incredible, the waitresses are extremely friendly and fun, the food is magnificent and lives up to its reputation, the meat comes off from the bone easily, the sauce is not too sweet or too acid, their menu of Cocktails are tasty as is their beer; They also has the attention with the children of giving them a sheet to play in while they are waiting for the food. If you dial on the phone a recording tells you that they can't reserve tables but on arrival there were a couple of large tables with a "reserved" sign. The experience except for the reception was magnificent, a highly recommended place, but do not forget to arrive the whole group at the same time or you will have to wait outside.
Not bad. Classic meats. The steak was pretty good but some things were on the bland side. The platter was really worth its money! The only thing that needed improvement was their so called signature crab dipping sauce. Tasted bland and feels like they blended up some frozen imitation crab meat with some cream, butter and water… Was going to give them four stars but the dining experience was very strange and awkward. One of the younger waiter was just standing around near our table maybe because they had no other customers on the side he was looking after except our table I think he needed more training on the job or maybe he was new? Overall it was not bad.
