First time here. Unique in it's own style. Had the full fix breakfast. Flavours were Different to what I am usually use to, which makes this place an exception from the rest. Nice food, great place, awesome atmosphere. Definitely be back to try the pastries, pies and other good stuff from bakkerij.
Bakery section was very nice, the menu items were nice but underwhelming. I ordered the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon on the house hash. Unfortunately two of the three eggs I received had solid yolk, the eggs themselves were not seasoned, and some of the hash pieces were overcooked to the point of being crunchy all the way through. The deluxe hot chocolate looked appealing, unfortunately the drink itself was relatively bland
Place was busy as always, though I'm never really sure why. I only go here when the missus tells me I am...she likes it. Waited 30mins for the food, which can be a problem when you're on a work lunch break. The food was underwhelming - the hash browns in my eggs bennie were deep-fried too long and hard as all hell, though the rest of the dish did what it said on the menu. The fries were fries and my iced coffee seemed mostly ice. Oh well..happy wife, happy life.
The place is neat. Plenty of seat. A good selection of pastries, coffee and menu from the kitchen. For this visit, I had the South Korean Chicken burger. It was on special menu. The chicken was crispy from the outside, and soft and juicy inside. The coleslaw and pickled veggies complimented the chicken. The smash avocado made it more creamy. The meal also came with fries mix of potatoes and kumara with aioli dip.
If you want the tastiest breakfast in the hutt with great atmosphere and a wonderful selection , Janus bakkerij has you covered. The food is to die for especially the hash and beans in the big brekkie , and the prices are very fair especially considering it's a cut above your usual cafe! Their hot x buns are the best around too, I'm so happy it's that time of year A+ Vote from me :
Thank you been open till 4pm early in the week. Had a lovely raspberry marshmallow donut. It was divine. Loved the little hearts. Shared it with hubby.
I've visited Janus a number of times over the years and been a few times recently. No matter what time it is this place always seems busy but there's usually a table you can snap up. They do amazing meals with their big homemade hash browns and have a bakery on site. I myself am gluten free so have only tried their gf and vegan brownie which I can sadly sad was absolutely horrible but that's gluten free and vegan desserts for you sometimes, I'm sure their other items are yummy, they definitely look it from the display cabinet. The food overall is pretty good but my partner paid $7 for one sausage that was dry and tough so sometimes it's hit and miss. We also asked for cutlery but only received one fork and knife when there were two of it so I had to ask again when my food arrived they had mistakenly made a non gluten free meal so I had to wait longer than my partner. I would go back because I do like the food and atmosphere but would be prepared for any inconveniences.
Coffee is a bit strong Dark roast. But nice place with a wide variety of baked products. If you have a sweet tooth, this is the place. 1st time here and will definitely come again.
Good choice for having breakfast, brunch or simply a good coffee
The club sandwiches are so yummy! It can be hard to find a table, especially for larger groups but only because this place is very popular! A great selection of cabinet and menu items.
