We stayed for 2 nights over the period of our 10 day trip down south, both times it was an amazing place to stay. We were in shared dorm rooms and our bunk room mates were fabulous both times. The setting of the lodge is great! We loved the feel of the place. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us, from a very late check in to allowing us to stay and wait for a very late check out. Place has a very warm feel of home!! Will definitely be back to stay next time we come down south for another tournament
Such a lovely place to stay! The rooms are nicely decorated and beds are comfortable enough. Literally the only things that let it down from 5 star rating were that the rooms were ridiculously hot with no fan and the bathroom lights are on a sensor - so if you’re the only person in the shower the lights will go off before you’ve finished getting dry and dressed leaving you in the dark. Not ideal! The doors slam shut they’re just heavy doors with no way of stopping this. The balconies and chairs in the corridors are a really nice extra, especially at dusk with the fair lights on, you get a nice breeze blowing through the top corridor! Didn’t use the kitchen but went down one morning to get some water and looked nice enough. Also which I’d had the chance to check out the basement area as it looked kinda cool! I stayed in February so the rooms would likely be find in winter they have a heater in the rooms.
This backpackers is clean, the common areas are nice and well decorated but the rooms are deceptive. Nothing but metallic beds. The breakfast is included but not yummy at all porridge & bread. The staff is not really nice and just want to make you pay every single thing for exemple the storage for your luggage.... I was obviously very disappointed after all the good reviews that I've read.
One of the best hostels I've stayed in. The entire place is spotless, has first class free WiFi, great lounge area, bar/restaurant downstairs and perfect central location. Only minor issue were the beds that were a little squeaky and our room only had 2 power points for 6 people. Great staff.
Very good location, close to all the restaurants. Bathrooms and kitchen are clean for hostel standards. Service was nice. Unfortunately, there is a bar right next to the hostel and our room‘s window was right towards this bar we had the room for 2. With an amazingly bad singer singing until late, there was no chance of sleep. Closing the window was not an option as the room was very hot and sultry and no airconditioning.
Beautiful hostel, comfy bed, great breakfast and freebies from the bakery down the road. Quite quiet but you can chat to people if you use the kitchen. Great hostel in the middle of town. Would stay again.
I stayed here for 7 nights in July. The staff were helpful and caught up with me each day to make sure all was okay. The accommodation and surrounds were kept clean and tidy. Pleased I chose this as my first experience in staying at a backpackers.
I stayed there for 3 weeks because of its close proximity to my school. I had a 2-bed room however, they were very considerate enough because they know that I had some studying to and I had the room to myself for the whole time I was there. Thanks so much to the staff! I'm looking forward to staying with you again.:
It felt very crammed in and claustrophobic. The lockers provided are of weird proportions and it's kinda difficult to fit a backpack in there considering most clientele are backpackers. Breakfast was free which was nice, but other than that it did not have much of a cozy feel to it. The location is great though - you have a balcony and it's close to many amazing restaurants and things to do in Nelson. Staff was friendly. Overall, this is an ok place. But for the price, I really wished the rooms weren't as tight and small as they were for staying in a shareroom.
I’m staying here right now, and so far I’m enjoying it! I have encountered a problem that I have unfortunately found in a lot of hostels so far. Because I’m super allergic to cats I try my best to look through the whole description and all the pictures before booking to ensure I won’t have to deal with a cat being around. Sadly, this hostel does have a cat, but stated it nowhere in their description. Otherwise, a great hostel, just wished they had the cat written down somewhere
