Love this place. So well built and inspiring. Lovely angles and surfaces, colours and shapes. Hundertwasser was an interesting and creative genius. We are so blessed to be able to be surrounded by his art even those of us who never met him. Great cafes and excellent treasures to buy
One of the best exhibition end the past few years in my life. This is a must with visit museum in Whangārei. The colour the lies and those fascinating arts pieces provoked my thinking. Suggest you to spend at least a couple hours here. There are free car park at the end of road The strand, close the end of the sculpture walkway it will save you some parking money.
Really fascinating gallery. Hundertwasser had some great ideas and it's nice to see the gallery display them and uphold them. It was a tiny bit smaller than I expected and so as budget travellers it wasn't the cheapest $30NZD. But that being said, it was lovely, the cafe was nice and I'm sure the money goes to the upkeep. Would recommend a visit for those interested in art and architecture.
I think this place was very interesting to look at. Personally the art wasn't my cup of tea but if your into that its worth looking inside. Good if your an environmentalist or a person with a interest in mixed media and abstract art. Was it worth the price? Like I said personally no and I probably won't recommend to others visiting Whangarei like I was. Good for photo opportunities on top of the building though!
Wonderful! I hadn’t expected such a great experience - I’m not sure why - but this gallery and building were truly awe-inspiring. Hundertwasser of course occupies a special place in the hearts of Kiwis because he loved our country and became part of our history and culture. It was great to learn more about him and his life, in particular from the very good film you can watch. The art and exhibits have all been very well curated, and I think there is an added element of passion to be felt from knowing a little of the history of the difficulties in getting the whole project manifested.nThe cafe looked fabulous - we didn’t have time to eat today but I can’t wait to return. The menu - in particular a substantial and delicious-sounding vegan menu - looked enticing, and prices seemed very reasonable.nPlease make the effort to visit this national treasure, and include a visit to the cafe in your plans.
