We were a group of 43 for lunch, so a bit of a challenge for the hotel. The staff were friendly and efficient. The meal was excellent. I was impressed and am happy to recommend them.
A pre Xmas lunch. We were all pensioners and decided to try the roast of the day pork Can I just say, the meal was beautifully presented and generous sizing. The crackling was a bit of a let down as it was a tad chewy. Dessert was a mini pav, perfect size after the large main. I enjoyed very much
Dirty, would all around shower, fridge filthy, tv didn't work initially, used to be top notch, now disappointing.
Good foodnVery helpful and polite staffnThere are plenty of park spaces
We were looking forward to staying here after we called and had a nice conversation with the receptionist a few weeks earlier.nnUnfortunately, we may have set our expectations too high.nnOn arrival, we weren't really told much around restaurant breakfast times and checkout times as well. We were asked if we were eating, and we were told we could dine in either the restaurant or the turf bar if dining after 9pm.nnThis was the exception to our stay. The service from the young girls in the restaurant was lovely, and the food was also really good. We had the Calamari Entree, Prawn Entree, and the Lamb Shank main. They were all fantastic but did take a while to get to us, considering we were the only ones there.nnThe room was fine and as expected size wise, the bed unfortunately was hard and uncomfortable and neither of us had a good night's sleep. The air-conditioning would have been fine, but unfortunately, they had the mini fridge in a closed cabinet with an air vent, so the heat from the fridge just came out through the vent, counteracting the air-conditioning. Very uncomfortable evening in 27-degree heat.nThe water pressure in the shower was no more than a drizzle. There was no phone in the room to contact reception or order room service - you had to call the hotel number from your mobile, we assume, as there was no information in the compendium either. Went to make a cup of coffee in the morning, but the jug wouldn't fit in the sink to fill up. I needed to refill a glass multiple times to top up the jug.nnSo, a lot of little issues led to a pretty average stay at the Hotel Ashburton, unfortunately. Had so much potential but is pretty dated and is long overdue for a makeover.
