Story

With Hope and Sons you will receive all of the services you would expect from a modern funeral director. Over our decades of service we have helped and served families in Dunedin and throughout the Otago and Southland regions, forming many friendships along the way. Hope and Sons has its company offices, chapel and reception lounge on the corner of Andersons Bay Road and Oxford Street, Dunedin. It also has premises at Tiverton Street, Palmerston.

Hope and Sons is a family business that has been operating since John Hope established it in 1887 at premises in St Andrew Street, Dunedin. His sons Bert, Jack and Les all worked in the firm. When Les retired as Managing Director in about 1968 he left the continuing operation of the business to his own sons Peter, Derek, Ian and Brian and the firm moved to its present facilities in 1970. The four brothers all worked until their respective retirements between 1996 and 2005. They now all actively support the fourth generation, Michael Hope, who currently owns and operates the firm.
