Hoon Hay is an outer suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, lying approximately 5km southwest of Cathedral Square, close to the Port Hills. It is named after Hoon Hay farm, near Hatton, Derbyshire.Hillmorton and Spreydon lie to the north. Somerfield is to the east and Cashmere to the southeast. The hill suburb of Westmorland was developed to the south during the 1980s. To the west lies farmland then Halswell.Hoon Hay valley is a rural valley approximately 2 km southwest of the suburb. Cashmere Stream, a tributary of the Heathcote River, flows down the valley.Education Hoon Hay School is a coeducational state contributing primary school with a roll of 402 and a decile rating of 7. Our Lady of the Assumption School is a coeducational state integrated primary school with a roll of 223 and a decile rating of 8.
