Its an awesome hike which almost everyone can do. It takes 3 hours total to complete the hike. The view is amazing throughout as you make your way through twist, turns and 3 suspension bridges. Make sure to apply your sunscreen as most of the walkway is not under shade. There are heaps of places where you can stop and click amazing pictures. There is one public toilet along the way which is i believe situated close to the end. I haven't hiked in a long time but still found the hike pretty easy. The hike ends with you in front of the lake and majestic mount cook.
Wow, whatever time of year you visit, it's always breathtaking. It's a great track for all ages and abilities. There are 3 swing bridges that might take a bit of a deep breath to cross but they are very sturdy and safe. Take layers as the weather can change very quickly.
The best short walk in NZ! 10km return will take you around 3 hours return to walk it. If you are not up to the full 10km I highly recommend going to just past the second swing bridge. Just past the second bridge you will see awesome views of MT Cook and there is also a toilet and picnic tables there for a sit down. Great walk. Track gets a little busy so go mid week or perhaps off peak if you don’t like crowds.
Trekked at the end of September when it was cold and raining, and the walk was definitely still manageable! It took us slightly below 3 hours for ~10km to and fro, excluding the time spent at the glacier lake. Layer up as it does get cold, especially at the glacier lake! The views are fantastic, easy walk on mostly flat ground and family-friendly too — we saw older couples, and also families with young children.
The most stunning view of mount cook you can see through the track of walk. Pretty easy way to walk along the track. It took me like 3hrs walking round trip with a series of pictures along the way. Shouldnt miss if you come to this area. I choose this track as i also bring my 60-year old mother along with me. Then it is pretty easy and walkable.
Hard to explain the amazing views and visual overload of what there is to offer there. Carpark is full by 12pm. Very good tracks and stairs. Well maintained and a safe walk. 3 swing bridges which offer great river views. It's a busy track so early to mid morning is best. The lake and mt cook are amazing and still had icebergs floating in the lake during January Summer 5km walk each way. We took 2hr at a medium pace there and return.
Best track and amazing views. Recommend but we saw people with little ones, a bit far for them. 10kms return. Don't take bikes or prams, take them in back packs instead. There are stairs at the start and gentle winding and rising paths. All good and wide. Mt Cook gets smaller the nearer you get. The lake had iced over with little ice bergs? A great walk for the morning.
Easy hike with rewarding views throughout. Path consists of mostly gravel and occasionally boardwalk. Elevation changes are done through gentle slopes or stairs. There is even a washroom located between the second and third bridge. We walked a little faster and completed our round trip in 2.5 hours. Since you’re generally going up in elevation to begin with, the return walk should be faster as it is mostly downhill.
I had a wonderful long walking experience here in this track. This track is one of the best in New Zealand. Any one can finish the track who is healthy enough. During my walk I have seen few kids 8-10 year old as well walking in the track. Wonderful New Zealand for making such a beautiful track
Definitely worth a walk! NZ is beautiful. Allow 3 hours but here are our timings below. We were there mid September. 12 mins start of track to swing bridge 1 18 minutes to swing bridge 2 20 minutes to swing bridge 3 20 minutes to the lake All the swing bridges can be very windy. As in you can't keep a cap easily on your head but that's part of the fun Toilets are 45 to 50 minutes from the start of the track. Pack wipes for your hands. About 45 steps down near the start so up at the end Took us 70 minutes each way. We spent around 20 minutes at the lake and had a toilet stop one way and multiple photo stops so 2 hours 45 minutes at a moderate, steady pace. Average health, average walking skills, in our late 40s
