About

Hewson Farms is a Large- scale vegetable and arable crop production. We are located on the free draining fertile soils of Ashburton, Mid Canterbury.

Story

The 1600 Ha of premium free draining flatland just north of Ashburton which is nestled in the heart of Mid Canterbury, is a family run farm. Our property is fully irrigated by large centre pivot and lateral Irrigators allowing us to operate a large-scale arable and vegetable cropping operation. A sustainable rotation is focused around 25% of our land in Potatoes and Onions each year, with the remainder in wheat, barley, ryegrass, beetroot , carrot seed and rape seed. During the winter Months we fatten 8,000 to 12,000 lambs each year on contract to local processors.
Hewson Farms owns and operates 4 truck and trailer units, these cart most of the produce except the potatoes which is contracted out. On the corner of the farm we have four distinctive half-round tunnel-shaped sheds so we are able to store a total of 23,000 tonnes of potatoes.
