We enjoyed our time at Herbert Forest. Not expensive. The facilities are old and tired and in need if renovation. Trees that were blown down in last year's wind storm have yet to be cleaned up. Maybe it could be the local schools fundraisers to get rid if them. Otherwise all goodHotel highlightsQuiet

A wonderful quiet location. A big site with plenty of space. Clean kitchen. Excellent showers- free! On 5 minute timers.Rooms: 5/5
VISITORS NOT WELCOME - see a review about the same thing on trip advisor aswell. You cannot have your parents or any siblings or any friend visit you for lunch or dinner or even a cup of tea, they can't visit for any reason while you stay there. The proprietor will alway use the excuse that his campground is at maximum allowance even when it isn't.not saying that at times this may be true In my opinion.. im sure a visitor who would like to pop in to see a person camping there for just an hour or 2 wouldn't mind paying a small fee for the access if thats the proprietors issue that he doesn't want anyone using the place for free which is understandable. If you do not like these kinds of restrictions placed on your holiday i would recommend not staying here. But if you dont care then its an okay place.
Had a great 3 nights away with the mrs and 2 kids at the herbert Forest campground, mark was an excellant host. The camground and facilities where nice and clean and the other people camping where all nice and Freindly penut the goat was a star attraction too
Very pretty campground with plenty of space. Bonus was being allowed to have fires in braziers! Toilets and showers are unisex and a bit dated/messy to be honest.
Just came back from here definitely coming back. Stunning scenery peaceful place. Kids had a absolute ball and owners are down to earth good people. Definitely rate herbert forest campground. Camping as it should be with added bonus of toilets and showers. See you guys again next time will be longer stay
Fantastic area to camp, outdoor fires were excellent at night, great river to swim in, clean and tidy. Mark the owner was great and came for a chat. Met some great people and new friends. The place is a hidden gem, rebooked another stay.
We had a short but delightful stay at Herbert Forest Holiday Park. Our cell phones didn't work for calling NZ numbers but Mark was very responsive and helpful over email. He allowed us to arrive late and just do our check in and payment the next morning before we left. We had some problems with our campervan and he was kind enough to let me borrow his cell phone so I could call the rental company to coordinate a solution. This park has lots of trees and it really does feel like you're staying in a forest as opposed to other parks where it feels like you're camping on a football field surrounded by other campers. There were other campers around but we were spread out and somewhat separated by the trees so it was very quiet and peaceful. I really appreciated Mark's generous hospitality and I'd gladly stay here again.
